Sterling Silver & Bloodstone

This charm is formed from a vintage sterling silver toad, fully articulated, and set beneath a single bloodstone bead.

The toad has long occupied an ambiguous place in European folk tradition. It is a creature of the betwixt, emerging in the twilight, vanishing without spectacle, sharing their curious songs with those who would listen. Within assorted folklore, the toad was associated with hidden knowledge and the mysteries of transformation, and as a creature of both water and land, it beautifully represented the power of unified polarities—protection and misfortune, poison and cure, alike. Accordingly, it is an animal with strong ties to magic, witchcraft, and the lore of familiar spirits.

The silver body of this toad moves at its joints—a small detail that lends it a sense of animation rather than fixity. It does not hang rigid, but rests, ready to shift. Above it rests a bloodstone—deep green chalcedony marked with iron-rich red, their opposing colors beatifully mirror that marriage of opposites observable in the toad. Traditionally regarded as a stone of healing grace and embodied strength, it has been carried for the virtues it imparts for many a century.

Together, the elements form a small charm especially suited to those who work with the liminal. It has been prepared with deliberate intent, but left energetically open and receptive for whatever work may be asked of it one day.

This is an unusual and fascinating pendant I came across a while back. It contains a small piece of handmade bobbin lace, which is housed within the body of an old silver-plated pocket watch, beneath a plastic dome. It was created sometime in the mid-20th century and comes from Nottinghamshire, England. While it would make a lovely statement pendant or collectible curio, I can't help but think of what a unique Spirit House it could make; and so I share it here and gope that it finds a home in proper hands.

8) What tools do you use most in your necromantic workings?

I use a few different tools, and have a verity of spirit vessels. But my main tool of focus at the moment in my bone rattle. It's made from bones of a specific animal and has been consecrated at verity of cemeteries and places of power before being put into ritual use. Now it's one of my strongest and most potent objects for calling to The Dead.

There are other tools i use regularly tool, but this one has become a personal favorite.
