the youngest and only daughter of the southern water tribe’s chief , therefore the apple of his eye amongst her older brothers and spoiled like mad <3 grew up very much as a princess ? aware of the privileges they received and kind of ran with it her whole life LOL her father raised her to see herself as the sun and she does very well . studied both at home but also went abroad to the different nations for seasonal teachings and the likes ! 

waterbending abilities are more based in healing than attacking ( which she can do ) and sira is hailed as one of the best , if not the best , and a prodigy in healing through waterbending . bc of this , she gets dragged to visit frontlines in both the southern and northern tribes to heal wounded soldiers - basically traumatizes her and starts her deep hatred for war , in her eyes anyone who is willing to wage war is a donkey . moving on !

played a socialite role more than anything - her brothers either went the political , military , academic or arts route , which left sira with more freedom . her dad also would never say no to her so she was in charge of greeting foreign guests or visiting abroad to keep up appearances . ends up in a partying type of group ( similar esque to the brat pack ) and drinks and has fun as a way to cope abt reality <3 how is she not a pisces but anyways 

cue her now , spending most of her time traveling and having fun . her parents were basically like u gotta get married babes ! in anticipation for lord chaesan’s nameday , sira’s dad sends her some months / a season in advance to get situated and begin looking for a prospective significant other to some day rule the southern tribe ( bc sira is 10/10 she’ll secure the throne by pouting at her dad ) and also just . take things more seriously lmfao but sira just sees it that her own title isn’t enough ( ie she has to be married to be worth anything ? ) and also as a way for people to snake their way in the family by using her as a marriage pawn . it’s a lot and sira is not down so while her parents have set up dates with single royals and nobles upon her arrival , she simply does not show up because BAM she took a detour to the earth kingdom lmfao so they find her and drag her back and she’s like fiiine this time :(

rather straight to the point that its borderline blunt and even sharp to the ears , but its never intentionally laced with meanness and rudeness . and if it is , it’s hard to tell whether she’s serious or not . kind of sticks to her peeps and strays away from whats been going on in the fire nation as much as possible ( it triggers her time healing people back home since it all sort of started off with little things like this ) so she’ll be the willing hand helping ur muse sneak out or have fun when everything is going to shit HAHA a very loyal friend and puts her platonic friendships first a lot of the time .. has returned with trunk loads of gifts for them <3 while it comes in waves she does have a deeper side to her , that contemplates a lot about life and the confines that come with being a royal . a pretty good listener ( if she’s not !!! abt something ) and equally offers sound advice . decent leadership skills but it’s not fine tuned . a bit gullible at times ngl like she truly doesn’t get the risk of walking around the city at night when royals / nobles r being killed but LMAO hopefully the time here will make her a bit more serious / mature about being a future queen . only if she makes it out alive that is ! :P

with everyone already looking down on his house thanks to it being made up of legitimised bastards, sungho basically just went fuck it and started behaving like an absolute douchebag; that is proudly appearing with different ladies by his side at every public event, drinking way too much at said events and causing a huge ruckus, openly talking quite badly about other houses without being afraid of the repercussions and even having been proven to be a homewrecker.

with that being said, he is also known to be an excellent liar. not a smart one, however; he doesn’t use lying to get his way politically. instead, he uses it to charm or even seduce other nobles. nowadays, however, sungho is relatively well-known for being bad at telling the truth, so quite a big number of people probably don’t really take him that seriously anymore.

for some reason he is a very proud person. he is well aware of the negative connotation his own house has ( which is arguably vastly because of him ) but still he takes pride in his great firebending and lightningbending skills— especially since there aren’t too many skilled benders from the iron islands.

his greatest weakness is the fact that he is quite easily influenced. he has a hard time reading other people and often falls for other‘s wicked schemes. sungho himself is not particularly cunning nor sly which is something he would like to change about himself. however, it seems he just doesn’t have the intelligence for that.

he would bend over backwards for his family. part of his reasoning for that is the fact that he feels like he is solely to blame for their house‘s bad reputation. even though he doesn’t admit it, he sometimes wishes he would have his life ( and well, his lust for life ) under control. but he knows he will never be a grand ruler anyway, so he figured it’s best to forget what other people think and live life to the fullest instead. especially when you have the wealth to do so.

xuanyu is both diplomatic and affable (owing, in part to his looks), but he is also both reticent and ambitious. the fact that both of the latter traits exist makes him difficult to read, because he seems as calm as water, and the fact that he withholds much of his thoughts to himself. what xuanyu says may often not be what he thinks, and most people see him as the warm but diligent eldest, both honest and kind. (what a joke, really)

he’s also vry spiritual aka he has a habit of meditating and praying (though of course, none of that is genuine..it’s merely a habit of his to be able to obtain the serenity he needs to think.

he also likes music, and went out of his way to learn the dizi (chinese flute)

prefers keeping his hair up in a ponytail, alternates in dressing in blue or black 

he’s known for his handsome looks, and the quiet elegance he tends to exude. almost no one has ever seen him lose his temper (save for his subordinates). sadly these days, it seems that his capabilities have been overshadowed by gossip about his looks

funny thing is, his parents thought that he would be a girl, and that’s why he was named 瑄羽 (xuanyu). his nickname amongst his family and their close friends was even xuan xuan (bring it up and you’ll see his face twitch.) [his name also means jaded feathers/wings which came as a lil surprise to me cuz it is ironic considering house sang’s emblem and things...]

he can be very charming if he wants to, and if he’s interested enough in someone / finds it interesting to poke their buttons, he will teasingly do so. he tends to show that charming & teasing side a little more towards nobility, the more contemplative side of him reserved for his quiet moments: so most people do have an impression of him as outgoing, charming and diplomatically friendly.

he has unfortunately, not have had any prior romances or crushes (he probably didn’t understand much of why he needed to have one and was more worried over the growing loyalties he saw of his house towards the vassals they were pledged to), though there is a possibility that quite a number of pple have had crushes on him. 

xuanyu disagrees beneath the surface with a lot of what house zhao values--or the soldier mentality that has kept their house trapped in foolish loyalty to the declining house sang. (or what he thinks is a declining house sang) and with the recent assassination + exile of some of house sang’s daughters, that sentiment has only grown stronger, which makes him all the more apprehensive of the fire lord’s reign : because who knows what the fire lord would do to them in the future, with house sang no longer ontop of their heads?

xuanyu disagrees as well (rather DEEPLY) with house sang’s pacifistic ideals--to him, things that you want ought to be grasped tightly in your fist, and sometimes regardless of the process of how you obtain what you want, as long as the end/bigger picture is attained, everything you do, no matter how uncomfortable it is--is right.

and so xuanyu secretly seeks emancipation of his house from house sang, something he hides from all members of his family. there’s no telling what he’ll really do to be emancipated from them, truly.

considering that his family presides over being house sang’s personal military, bodyguards as well as being the guards of the city...we can all assume of the possibility of something going really wrong if they’re not held in check. 

for someone who dislikes the idea of his house’s blind faith and loyalty towards house sang, it’s ironic that xuanyu himself demands such faith and loyalty from the yuyan archers that he commands. he’s efficient, ruthless and cold-blooded when needed--which was one of the reasons why many were surprised that even at the age of 30, despite his genius in his younger days for firebending, xuanyu has yet to reach the ability of lightening bending, something of which he does get scathed for.

he has long fallen from being a genius in the eyes of many, due to his inability to lightening bend, even though his many other accolades attest to his capabilities as both a diplomat and a commander. 

in fact, xuanyu’s latent talent is shown by the fact that he has in fact, mastered almost all kinds of weapons that he has come across. he is both an incredible marksman and blademaster, a skilled spear and halberd user, all of which, he had come across and mastered in his youth, with the latter two having been learnt partially out of interest and boredom. he is also adept in terrain + military strategies, and has a pretty good knowledge of utilizing traps and botany, something that he’s still conscientiously studying.

despite being talented, what a lot of people don’t know is that xuanyu spends a lot of time and effort in honing his skills. he is the kind of person that is like 90% talent and 110% hardwork, which is why many (including his dad) are disappointed that he hasn’t reached the threshold of being able to use lightning bending.

xuanyu also holds little attachment to his family, despite having a good familial background and a loving family. while he plays a wonderful older sibling and a duitful son, xuanyu is not tied down by ideas of loyalty towards his family or clan, and with the ability to see beyond the trappings of a house’s benefits and loyalty, it is from there where his conflict stems. despite his ambition, he is a free spirit, although he is currently chained down by his father’s determination to be loyal to the sang family.

xuanyu’s father may be the head of the household, but he has been managing the financial assets and diplomatic relations of house zhao for quite some time ever since he turned 18. however, the final say still remains with his dad, though that isn’t to say that he’s not above doing suspicious stuff without anyone knowing.

he has a burn across his collarbone close enough to his neck from a slight mishap in a firebending spar in his youth, when he was still considered a firebending genius. admittedly, in his younger days he showed off a bit more, and that burn is a reminder when someone older & more advanced than him in firebending decided to put him in his place in a spar. since then he’s learned to keep mum about his talents, just quietly letting them grow without anyone knowing. 

the burn actually ended up festering and turning him feverish, so xuanyu had a lot of time in bed by himself feverishly thinking abt things and replaying that match in his head...so...the unfairness / underhanded tactics in that one battle actually set the stage for him learning to be underhanded and sly in his own battles. strike first before the enemy can make a move, and when you strike--make it hurt.

he has quite a lot of scars on his body that were from his time in the army as well as the battles he went thru.

wanted connections:

CHILDHOOD FRIENDS, ENEMIES, FRENEMIES -- probably nobility, and maybe by extension some royals, considering that they’re of a lesser noble house? young xuanyu still hides a lot of his countenance behind the mask of being dutiful and affable, and he was known as a genius back in his younger days (though that sentiment seems to have long faded into disappointment). he was also a little bit of a showoff, especially when his parents were around, believing that that was what was expected of him--until a particular spar that left a scar on the side of his neck told him that sometimes less is a little more.

EX-BODYGUARD? -- considering that xuanyu is a part of the zhao family, i’m sure he was sent out perhaps a couple of times to gain experience in being bodyguards for some nobles or royalty. he joined the military at a pretty young age considering that his family is of military, so you might hv had a teen xuanyu being responsible for your wellbeing. whether or not that connection remains as good or as bad as its suppose to be is up to you.

BEING THE SUBJECT OF ONE-SIDED CRUSHES -- despite having no experience of romances himself, and oblivious as hell about things related to it, xuanyu’s good looks and the affable disposition that he shows in front of many probably made him one of the most yearned for noble bachelors in the vicinity. unfortunately, none of these one sided crushes have ever come into fruition, and xuanyu might or might not have broken a couple of hearts both intentionally and unintentionally somewhere along the way with his obliviousness.

RIVALS / SUBORDINATES/ SUPERIORS --  despite his affableness, xuanyu will often butt heads with people that he believes aren’t right, or if he disagrees with their ideas, especially when it comes to the yuyan archers or if you are his superior in military. not that he questions your capabilities of course, he just doesn’t like being told what to do, even though he ends up doing it accordingly and well. and he’ll probably make sure you know that he’s not happy with that. 

PARTNERS IN CRIME / MAYBE NOT IN CRIME -- there are a lot of things that xuanyu keeps hidden, not just from everyone, but also family. but it is also what enables him to have unlikely partnerships with a lot of people, though keeping it deeply under the wraps is something that he values heavily. his trust is not easily earned, and whether or not he enjoys your partnership enough to continue it is also another thing entirely.

MORAL COMPLEXITIES -- being the subordinate / working closely in the military with xuanyu also means that in one way or another, you are given more insight into the seemingly dutiful and affable eldest of the zhaos. you’ve seen him at his worst, and at his best, quarreled over the niftiest of things to the greatest moral complexities in war--and perhaps you are slowly realizing that perhaps, zhao xuanyu’s moral values don’t seem to align much with what he seemingly portrays himself to be.

to nobles, he’s a prince only in name because of how apathetic he is. careless, aimless, a libertine, wasted potential are all names people call him (behind his back, of course)

tries half-assedly to fulfil his duties to satisfy the masses (some people fall for it and think he’s doing amazing, others don’t) but underneath it all he usually leaves the biggest decisions to his twin and really only advises when necessary ... he doesn’t like all this chaeyul vc political nonsense

just his existence annoys and frustrates many nobles because of how great he could be if he tried. he’s still accomplished despite his idleness, being very perceptive and knowledgeable in many fields alongside being an incredibly talented firebender but he simply balks at the idea of putting in effort to improve

if he’s not carrying out duties he’s often frequenting the markets or streets, but this in no way means he’d rather prefer to be a commoner - he’s super indulgent and basks in his wealth and status

some quiet rumours surround him about his debauchery at night and string of heartbroken people behind him but there’s no solid proof yet of whether he really indulges in these acts :-)

personality wise a) adores gossip/rumours/scandals b) however greedy he may come across as, he’s satisfied with the amount of power he has and doesn’t really want more because that means more responsibilities and c) he’s pretty charismatic and humorous despite all of his shortcomings, very good at charming people when they first meet him, though his flippancy, sharp tongue and insensitivity eventually shows after a while 

many people don’t get to know him for that long though, so most people meet him and have a good impression but only hear rumours after

though too lazy to refine them, he has a lot of pride in his firebending abilities and the fact that he’s a prince. insulting either of those two is an easy way to rile him up; few people try outwardly and even fewer get away with it

background:

the youngest child of house tai, the beloved and doted upon little lady of dragonstone. dragonstone may have been in the cold northern regions, but it was still a major port city. haena grew up surrounded by bustling port workers and foreign workers, absorbing every story and detail with gleaming, curious eyes. she was always a lover of stories, and the best storytellers always came off the ships in her family’s harbor. 

she’s a bright and vivacious young girl, an adventurer in the making. while she loved to spend her free time climbing up trees and exploring every nook and cranny dragonstone had to offer, she always found her way back home. she used to follow her brother around all the time, playfully called his little shadow whenever he was home. he always had the best stories, and treats hidden for her in his sleeves.

but this wouldn’t be an interesting story if it was all happiness, would it? no, because at eleven years old, the house of tai is shaken by the execution of its second child, then the death of its head of house.

when her brother died, it was like something inside her died too. a break in her body, fractured by grief that was too big for her chest. there was no outlet, no way to process the pain she was carrying around. for the weeks after his execution, she could hardly be comforted. a shell of her former self, she became a ghost in her own home. curled up in tears in his old bedroom, until her muffled sobs turned into screams. 

she learns to live with it. somehow. its a constant weight in her chest that she carries around, a burden she has learned to breathe with. her grief lends to rage, a drive to never feel so helpless again. 

she made a monster of her grief, until it consumed her whole. 

maybe it would have been fine, if her rage wasn’t targeted at the crown. at the royalty their house is sworn to serve. at the whole structure that allowed a king to learn an art from his loyal vassals, only to ban them from the very thing they lovingly shared with him, and years later, sentenced her brother to death. 

yeah, that wasn’t really gonna fly in the fire nation even if she kept it more or less under wraps enough not to be setting off alarms about an unhinged teenage girl who daydreamed about killing the fire lord in various gruesome and creative ways! 

basically, her mom sees all the gasoline she’s filled herself with and was like oh i have a good idea, let’s deal with this is by shipping her off to a foreign nation and marrying her off to a random man she’s never met!

spoiler: it was not a good idea

lord lee kihyun embodied his element. he was steadfast and unwavering, as consistent as the stone he worked. these were admirable traits, ones that lended well to his career and loyalty to the earth kingdom’s royal family. they may have been good ones in a husband, at least, one that wasn’t such a traditionalist. he had a specific idea of what his new fire nation wife should be like. pretty as a picture, quiet, obedient. and submissive. that last one was very important.

and guess which one haena will literally never be!

the long story short is: kihyun and haena did not get along. during the long and lonely days and weeks and months she was there for a ‘courtship,’ he would spend his days either ignoring her existence or micromanaging and criticizing her every move. there was no winning in his eyes, only her sins.

one day after their marriage, kihyun tragically ( and mysteriously hoho ) dies late at night. he was a bit of a lightweight, you know? it was a point of teasing amongst his friends, how the ever stoic and steady lee kihyun would become hazy and easily flustered with just a few drinks. poor haena tried to get him back to their room, but when she left to find someone to help her ( he was just so much bigger than her, nearly twice her size it seemed like some days, she had to have someone help her carry around this massive man who was so much stronger and larger than her!!! ), they returned to find him on the ground outside, fallen from a balcony in his drunken stupor.

people love to gossip, and there was no hotter gossip than the newly widowed lady haena and the lack of witnesses to her husband’s death. everyone knew she wasn’t happy in the earth kingdom. some people thought “poor haena, lost her husband a day after they were married. a widow at twenty three. most of her peers aren’t even wed yet at that age.” most were more cynical, cycling rumors and theories as to what happened. 

between court ladies, they whisper “i heard lady haena murdered him for love. isn’t it just so tragic and romantic? she killed for her lover back home, the one ripped away from her through this marriage. now she returns home to him, hands stained bloody. will the embrace be as sweet as she imagined it?”

soldiers training in the courtyards say otherwise between parries. “she’s fire nation, isn’t she? all that hunger for power, i heard her parents basically let the first person who expressed interest have her because she was so much trouble back home. now they’re getting her back, hungry for more than she’s ever been destined for and cocky enough to get away with murder.”

a palace maid says to another, passing plates of food between bustling hands. “i heard she did it just because. just to know she could do it.”

came back to the fire nation two weeks ago, after three months of “mourning” aka investigation into his death. results? inconclusive. there was nothing to prove she did it. nothing to prove that she didn’t. 

the rumors follow her home, every action another piece of evidence for someone’s personal theory. maybe she didn’t cry enough at the funeral. maybe she wasn’t dressed appropriately. maybe she was too wracked by her grief and shock she couldn’t do anything but be moved across seas. everything was proof for a crime no one could solve.

still. don’t you want to know if she did it?

people from the earth kingdom or were in the earth kingdom for any long period of time in the last year while haena was there. maybe you felt bad for haena, who you could tell her lovely dead husband didn’t really care for! maybe you believed everything he said about her! maybe you think she’s an innocent widow framed by court gossip! maybe you think she’s a murderess who got away with the worst of crimes! let’s play around with it!

someone who was close to her dead brother who maybe has a soft spot for her because of who she is and maybe yall bonded over that grief!

would love for someone to realize girl is unhinged. she’s doing a pretty good job at Not Being Unhinged or Concerning In Public but someone has gotta be able to see her and be like wow look at that ticking time bomb!
