alright alright alright alright
I agree with knowing they're our age is terrifying O.o
Literally, it is the most scary thing, because truthfully, though the children in THG (eh, itās a decent comparison) do have to go through immensely cruel experiences, I donāt think thereās something worse in this world than having to die and not die, than having to be completely aware that your body is being taken apart one organ at a time, than having to go through both of these things at an age of thirteen, fifteen, or whatever.Ā
The cruel reality of the future thatās more than imminent chills me to the bone. I hear things about 3-D organ printers from my aunt, whoās pretty well immersed in the Houston Medical Center network. I hear arguments every day between people who are pro-life and people who are pro-choice. All across the nation, there are already ācampsā that are doing horrifying, sickening things that could just as well be a precedent for whatās to come. Babies are left every day on peopleās porch steps and turned away. Discipline for kids in lots of places is more ugly than you can imagine. The thing about Unwind thatās so terrifying, to me, is the fact that itās more real and more close to our lives than any other dystopian Iāve ever read.Ā
Sure, the USA could disintegrate and transition into a dictatorship ruling over thirteen districts per means of bloody āgamesā, among other things. Sure, genetics could be singled out as the key to ending mass killing in the war, but in effect creating another world thatās just as bed. Sure, we could stumble into a future where books are burned because the government doesnāt want us to be educated and able to fight back.
Sure, all of those things could happen, but the thing isānot anytime soon. These possibilities are way too many decades away. The future presented to us in Unwind is terrifying in itself and terrifyingly close. It could happen. In the next thirty years. In the next fifty. It could happen, and the victims could be our grandkids, and what terrifies me most is that, maybe, by then, weāll be a part of it.Ā
Itās terrifying now to think that these kids are our age, to think of ourselves in their positions. And itās even more terrifying to think that we could be in their huntersā positions. Unwind, in general, is just fucking terrifying.Ā
what's the "you're the girl who called me an asshole the frst time we met" thing from?? is it a book?! I must read, if so haha
It's from the Mara Dyer trilogy! The first book (Unbecoming of Mara Dyer) is where that quote is from :)Ā
