Here's a quick follow up to something I discussed in July, as my downward spiral began here. Here's my cousin John. He died a year ago today of a heroin overdose, nine months before my brother would suffer the same fate this past July. He was only 36. Are you a parent of someone struggling with addiction? Are you a parent? Regardless of the answer, remember this: NEVER ignore the signs that your child may be struggling. Take no chances. Act IMMEDIATELY. This could've easily been avoided if the right action was taken years ago. But it's too late now, and with him goes a major link to my childhood. Here's a brief reminder to you parents out there, following up on something I discussed in July. This was my cousin John. He died at 36 of a heroin overdose a year ago today, meaning my downward spiral began here and with him. If you're a parent and you enable your child to make the stupid decisions he and my brother made, you deserve to be miserable for the rest of your life. His mom genuinely tried, knowing she could do so much after bringing the horse to water(this isn't to say she's a saint and she acknowledges it). His father? He ignored it all, enabling his psycho girlfriend to take full advantage of him, and he didn't even check on his own son in his room the day he died and for that he's forever a PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT. This one bothers me more than even my brother, as he was a major link to my childhood, more of a cousin to me than my blood cousins. Fuck them. You have a choice: stand your ground or accept the consequences.
