I have to be honest, Floch was one of the characters I disliked most in Attack on Titan. Especially in the last two arcs and especially as the story progressed. He was extremist, supported a plan of genocide (even encouraged it), spoke about an Eldian Empire that will crush its enemies and had no problem killing innocent bystanders or people who openly disagreed with him.
But now, reading about his death, I can’t help but pity him a little. He transferred to the Scouts and, during his first expedition, he stormed into a suicide attack out of which he was the sole survivor, outliving even the heavily injured Commander. He dreamed about a new world, a stronger Paradis, and saw Eren as the savior who would fulfill his dream, viewing him as a god (or a demon), the only one capable to realize Floch’s imagination about an Eldia who would obliterate all other nations. Which is exactly what led to him becoming more and more extreme, more and more hotheaded and more and more paranoid towards anyone who would jeopardize Eren’s plan.
