I have a new piece of gear, a macro ring flash kit, and I've been out practising. Basically I'm working out what is the fastest shutter speed I can use with it. So far I'm up to 1/400th, with an ISO around 6000 and f16. More experiments to follow.

The top end ring flashes, such as those made by Canon and Sigma, are damn expensive but there is an affordable alternative, the Yongnuo YN14EX. The YN14EX is just as good as the top end ring flashes and does everything the top end ring flashes do, it's just that it is a lot cheaper.
