Nighttime. For a creature with excellent night vision, who grew up hiding in the dark, night time is almost comforting sometimes. That’s why Hailey is never worried about sleeping by the roadside, in a ditch, covering herself with her coat like it’s a blanket.
But tonight is different. She saw something, and she has to go and investigate. Curiosity killed the cat, though not literally. Yet.
So that’s how Hailey finds herself chasing the lights in the dark. She knows she shouldn’t, she knows that it’s a bad idea. She knows that thanks to her past, this is unlikely to end well. She can’t help herself. It was a lost cause from the moment she first saw those crystal wings, and wondered to herself what could have possibly happened to Flandre Scarlet to make her look so...lost.
Of course, Hailey knows that she’s in a different world now. She knows that things could be completely different here. It’s pointless clinging to her past. But she just can’t quite manage to reconcile the friendly and fundamentally kind little vampire she knew and the individual she’s just seen.
And so she chases in the dark, trying to catch up. Maybe there’s a metaphor in that.
