On a side note; aside from the original Hook written by Barrie, I am most inspired by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s Black Stache.

I love how each different Hook means something and inspires each of us differently and that we do not always look at Hook as a wholly irredeemable character.

I grew up with the Cathy Rigby and Paul Schoeffler version for the musical so I’m partial to them, but yeah, the musical version of Hook is also fun. It’s interesting how almost all of Hook’s musical numbers in the show involve specific types of dance (“Hook’s Tango,” “Tarantella,” “Captain Hook’s Waltz”). I have wondered why they decided to do that and what they’re trying to say about the character by associating him with such things.

The tango originated in South America in the late 1800s and was common in port cities in bars and brothels. It’s a sort of “spicy” couples’ dance. The tarantella came from Italy and is a very fast, upbeat sort of dance that supposedly got its name from the fact that dancers moved in an almost crazed, hysteric manner in response to the bite of a spider (Lycosa tarantula)…though there is also a couples’ version that can either be romantic and courtly or almost mimic sword fighting. The waltz is a graceful ballroom couples’ dance from Germany that originated in the 1700s. It’s odd but interesting that Hook has so many romantic/couples’ dances associated with him, particularly when he doesn’t really have a romantic interest…unless you count the number “O, My Mysterious Lady” with Peter pretending to be a young lady flirting with him…which was later removed from the show entirely. I’d be curious to see if you or anyone else has thoughts on this.

For those who don’t know what I am talking about, this was a One Shot which had won a contest on the Kingdom Keepers Insider website for stories centered around “What if the Overtakers [Disney Villains] had won?”

None of the characters from the books actually appear in this story, as far as I know. It centers around how the magic of Disney has been completely forgotten, almost as if Walt had never even existed. All that remains is a large barren field in the middle of Florida... and tiny remnants of memories. Very few people notice these flashback remnants, and when they do, they are usually ignored.

One day, a high school sophomore named Ava has a revelation about the Field in science class when more vivid flashbacks come flooding in after she flips her water molecule sketch upside down, and decides to draw that symbol over and over again on the sidewalk that surrounds the Field (using stolen chalk from another classroom). She is soon joined by a 13-year-old named Peter, who might or might not be Peter Pan, claiming that he had a similar revelation after drawing a backwards G in the dirt with his foot. The story ends with them agreeing to come back to the Field together to draw more of these symbols, especially since they are likely to get washed away by the rain.

Unfortunately, last time I tried to find this story, I discovered that the Kingdom Keepers Insider website was gone (just like what had happened to PocketWriters), so the link doesn’t work anymore. This is why I am asking if anyone on tumblr remembers this story and somehow managed to save it?

I think the only reason I remember this story is because I thought it would make a fun hook for a roleplay on Wattpad, but it never really took off, since I tend to kill every roleplay I am part of that isn’t a tabletop campaign…

Also, off topic, how am I just noticing now that the link lacked the “s” for “secured” that’s supposed to follow the “http” at the beginning??
