Edward Nashton had just been sent back by his another adoptive parents because of his "weird" behavior—he was withdrawn, listless, and had no friends at school.

They had hoped that adopting a child in their late teens wouldn't be difficult or stressful, but they were wrong. This boy wasn't the son they expected... It might be cruel, but they couldn't bear to stay with this seemingly good boy any longer.

After the paperwork was done, his adoptive parents drove him back to the orphanage. There was no conversation during the drive, they felt too guilty to turn and look at him in the back seat.

They tried to make the house warm and welcoming, constantly inquiring about his school and health. He felt very good, but he didn't know how to show it... At his high school, in ninth grade, he was always bullied, but when returning to face the couple who welcomed him so warmly, he didn't want to say anything that would spoil the good atmosphere. So he usually remained silent.

As he entered the familiar orphanage, he heard a chorus of sing in harmony coming from the hall. There must be visitors, and the kids that still have soft voices have to go there. He had been one of them, on the day that Tomas Wayne made that false promise...

He tried to walk away from the hallway to escape the sound. He intended to return to the common room, but his eyes caught sight of a little girl in a choir uniform from the orphanage. She was sitting alone, crying... He didn't usually mind people's business, but for some reason, he found himself sitting beside that girl... She stopped sobbing immediately and looked up at him. She looked confused... He tried to start a conversation as the older kid (he wanted to act like an adult).
