The whole world was going to be different. Clint remembered feeling that way after the Incident. Standing on that ruined balcony, staring out at the alien bodies and the smoke and the destruction all around him. He didn’t have that same lingering guilt in his chest this time, that same feeling of I caused this. Somehow, that made it feel less real. So when he heard the rumors about this island, he made his way down to the docks to take a look for himself.Â
It was a sight. Clint felt his breath catch in his throat for a moment, just blinking at it in awe. And he wasn’t the only one. Everyone seemed to be staring, with a strange mixture of confusion, horror, and concern. Except one man. “Hey, dog-saver,” Clint called out, walking up to him. The guy was gripping the rail tightly, eyes wide as dinner plates. “You good there?” Clint asked softly.Â
