Rick and Morty creative writing gaaaameeee!!!
My dudes, Iβm petty, but also creative, so I was thinking:since a lot of us are unhappy with the last turn of the events and we are a pretty awesome community of writers, creators and sh1tposters, why donβt we share our versions of the episode?? or even just some hint/themes. Creative thinking/writing is the most positive thing we can do now! what themes we wanted to explore? what would have been cooler? In other words, what we, the people, actually wanted to see in the E.Morty new arc?
Iβll drop the ideas that came to my mind for an alternative episode, and I hope u will reblog the post and add YOUR version of the story! this will be fanfic fuelπ₯π₯π₯π₯ And since no idea could ever be worst that what we saw, be creative, donβt be shy π
The theme of the episode is βyou need to care in order to feel okay, to have some purposeβ and every character arc will eventually follow the same structure, moving from not caring, to caring.
Following this βI donβt careβ lie that the whole Smith family always tell to themselves, E. Morty goes into full relax mode through the Infinity, trying to find funny and stimulating stuff to do. After showing in a rapid succession E. Morty trying the craziest and goofiest sh1t you can think of outside the CFC, u can see him growing lonely and pretty depressed. Even Infinity looks repetitive when u can do anything but you are alone. And once you can do what you want, what is that you actually want to do? Is getting rid of a Rick in control of your universe enough for you to become βthe new master of your universe?β we see him pondering about Rickβs files in his space lair, like if he has some evil intention, just to see him popping out later onβ¦
E.Morty could at this point decide to try and visit the Smiths, now that he is independent and adult enough to deal with the past from a new prospective (of course Jerry lets him in without understanding he's not Morty Prime, we would have had e.morty already sitting at the table with the others, with Rick going Γ¨_Γ© and Morty Prime freaking out once in the room) leading to the most weird, unexpected and awkward family reunion for lunch, with Morty P. panicking, Rick being pissed off and probably shooting at E.Morty from time to time like the good old days (at this point yeah, E. Morty would totally remind him that he has the Omega device, as life insurance, but more like a punch line really), with Beth saying sth like βdad, no shooting while at the table, we agreed on thatβ. Space Beth and Evil Morty could start the best of the conversations since they have a LOT in common (it was was nice to see that domestic Beth and E.Morty have the same reaction to slurs, they have indeed a lot in commonπ) of course with the most jaded tones in the world.
Jerry would surely messed up with some of evil morty devices at a certain point and that could have lead to some absurd side adventure, like atomised jerry ending up into another level of reality, and then he would have been reversed back to normal by a very bored rick at the end of the episode. This would have been funny but would have also shown Jerry having a certain admiration for his rickest βsonβ.
Right when tension starts to rise (like Beth asking how e.morty and Rick have met, and e. Morty simply answering sth like βat the citadel, when I needed Rickβs memories to bring the CFC downβ hinting at something big that the family ignores, right in front of them) space beth could propose a family trip just to force rick to spend time with this obviously neglected new member of the family(just because the situation mirrors her childhood), also she gives an assist to Rick bcs she probably knows what the curve is and thereβs no need to trouble Jerryβs frail mind πas soon as Jerry hears abt family trip he screams βlike camping??π₯Ίπβ but Space Beth and E. Morty say at same time: βlike overturning a regime.β pause. βbut in space.β
During the family trip we see the old refrain of Summer and Rick kicking some alien nazis a$$, Domestic Beth doing some crazy shit and releasing a bit of tension, and a way more healthy E. Morty-Rick competition (E.Morty still cares, heβs resentful, he wants to impress Rick and at the same time, he needs to show him that he is better than him, just like in the actual episode, but instead of completely overwriting the characterβs personality by making him a lunatic, these two undergoing toxic emotions make him more complex, feeling more like human behaviours, irrational side consequences of trauma from the past).
Morty Prime actually feels dumber than E. but starts to see him as some kind of a more protective Rick, that gives him cool gadgets and explains him how to actually use them without making him accidentally becoming a boat (just to name one) basically a mentor that actually have some patient with him. Also giving some moral dilemma about overturning a regime would have hopefully made Morty Prime a better person. Morty might change his mind and stop pretending he doesnβt care every time Rick is mean to him. At the same time, instead of the usual immature and codependent Morty, we see the goodhearted side of him (from the long gone previous seasons): he starts to realise how toxic and weird is for a Morty to try to impress a Rick, like watching himself in a mirror... by the end of the episode he gives doctor Wong business card to E.Morty.
Rick might consider that, after all, not all independent Mortys are cocky and dangerous (his biggest fear from s1) and that he should actually care more about his Morty and lay down his defences.
E. Morty realises by watching the Smiths having fun together, that maybe the answer isnβt βI donβt careβ, maybe now that he is free he can start to care about something, he can slowly leave survivor mode behind: maybe u need purpose to be happy (keep fighting corrupt systems as a purpose would be cherry on top because Mortys have a strong sense of justice and it would make sense with E.Mortyβs βI donβt need a Robinβ, βcause yeah, he would have been a pretty good Batman). He also probably realise that the Smiths arenβt the answer and they are not his actual family, so he might withdraw a little and leaving with a bittersweet ending (even if the smiths realised blood doesn't count,e.Morty wasn't there to learn this lesson).
Summer might, actually for the first time, start caring about having some family time, since the last good family time everyone had was when she was forgotten at spring camp π
Jerry might have had some deep revelations about the infinite universes inside another universes (it tends to happen when u are an atom), realising that of all those possible forms, being the Jerry he is, the Jerry of his family, is what matters the most to him, what he really cares about.
the narrative would also highlight how different and similar e. morty and rick are at the same time... following on the unmortricken path e. morty sees how somehow he and rick had the same life experience (rick c137 getting free from prime as e. morty did with the ricks), ending up lost in a universe they can dominate, but that feels so cold and empty. It would be interesting because thatβs a common feeling in any kind of abuse survivors: once u get freedom, since all your social/values structure is forever changed, your brain feels lost. It literally has nothing to use as safe space or as a familiar spot, everything is different and new, and that numbs you. It takes time to build a new, safe structure.
Also I thought that it would have been super cool if at the end of "There's something about Morty" was revealed that E.Morty had just sent a random E.Morty from another universe to hang out with Rick just to test how his relationship with Rick could have gone and that's why he hasn't his theme playing, he was just at home all the time ππ
The end, grab a milkshake and share your thoughts!! βπΌπ
