The way demigod powers in the riordanverse is so confusing to me. Because apparently Poseidon chose to give Percy his powers, or at least, it is implied in SoM, i.e his perfect sea bearings and naval powers. So why are the gods all like *madmad* you bore a child, he’s gonna he powerful, *glowers*. But in theory, they could easily strip away their powers bc again, they’re like a gift to their favored children. But then again, it could not and more specifically be something the mortals perceive about demigods. We hear how the gods change appearance, character, etc. based on western civilization and mortals; without them, they would fade, and this involves monsters as well. But what about demigods? In Ancient Greece, demigods didn’t have the powers that modern half bloods have. From what I remember, the closest they had was super strength, and some didn’t even posses that. The only thing they had in common was skill lol. So what I think, is that throughout the years, and especially with the super hero influence, humans began to see demigods as having superpowers based on their godly parent. Maybe unconsciously, but the idea of the modern hero in itself had changed drastically to fit society. Before, most heroes were favored as strong, loyal to their religion and the people, have good morals, etc etc. It all depended on what society feared and valued. But then religion was substituted with science and new ideas came about, so now heroes didn’t necessarily only need to be strong. This made demigods around the twentieth century suddenly be born with powers the gods hadn’t seen before in their children. Hence why it took so long for there to finally be two world wars involving the big three children and how they were too powerful. Because the mortals saw them more powerful. Which is why Zeus, Hades and Poseidon had that oath to not bore any more mortal children. This all comes down to my point, that without mortals, demigods also wouldn’t have powers and that in itself is kinda wild ngl. But what’s worse is that I can just imagine Poseidon having like a child in 1920 or smth and then the girl can just. Breathe underwater and do crazy shit and the gods would have a temporary hard attack. Idk I could go on and on about this theory and it’s probably cursed, but it sounded cool in my head and I needed an explanation as to why their powers vary and why they have them in the first place bc in the Greek myths I’m pretty sure they’re not mentioned??? America explain, explain (!!!!)
