When he sees her his breath catches in his throat. There were very few people he would be thrilled to see after a red eye flight but she was at the very top of the list. Being back home was weird. It felt like he clawed his way out kicking and screaming and when his siblings got out he vowed to no longer clean up his parents messes. That lasted all of maybe two years and now his father is getting dragged off to prison... again, and somebody needs to make sure his mom doesn't go off the deep end.
His arms are around her the moment he's close enough, "I told you I was perfectly fine getting an Uber," he says, "--but I'm so fucking happy to see you."
