The air in the Forbidden Forest was thick with the scent of damp earth and the quiet menace of ancient things. Gabriel moved through the undergrowth with deliberate silence, his presence as unobtrusive as the shadows clinging to the gnarled roots. He had come here for the solitude, for the rare stillness that only these woods could offer—until the flicker of movement ahead shattered it.

A figure stood beneath the twisted branches of an elder oak, his posture rigid, his confidence bordering on arrogance. A dragon, no larger than a housecat but undeniably a dragon, coiled around his shoulders, its emerald scales catching the faintest glimmer of moonlight. Gabriel didn’t need to see the man’s face to know who he was.

Rhaegar Gaunt.

The name carried weight, even in the silence of the forest. Gabriel stepped forward, the rustle of his cloak the only sound between them.

“You have a habit of making an entrance,” Gabriel said, his voice low, measured. “Though I suppose that’s to be expected from you.”

AN ANCIENT FURY NOT UNLIKE A SERPENTS VENOM ( ... ) FANGS SLOWLY SINKING INTO THE WEALTH OF HIS OWN TONGUE. For such was a lesson that Ominis had already learned the hard way. Far from the supposed safety of Hogwarts' lithic walls with an overabundance of prying eyes and eager ears. Was a Slytherin not only as good as their ability to maintain a secret? Such as the meticulous whens and wheres to expose one's wrath - ?

What had their peers all said of Ominis day one? A Gaunt is still a Gaunt .

It was a bitter pill to swallow ( ... ) that perhaps, they had been right. Afterall, was it not he, himself, who had first learned the FORBIDDEN CURSES - ? Was it not the young Gaunt who had known — by BLOOD RIGHT as his father would have said — the way to Salazar Slytherin's Scriptorium? Was it not his fault that Crucio had been cast at all ... ?

Silent footfalls made quick work of a route he'd memorized at his brother's side. Wand held low in the dark of the night as it produced an ominous, crimson glow. Guiding his way not to Rhaegar, but to Nagini. Afterall, Ominis was sure that the sole reason Rhaegar would not have sought him out, himself? Was because he was still dealing with Sebastian. Bile souring the serpent's tongue at the thought alone.

Stowing his wand and striding closer and closer still until a hand settled upon the glory that was the EMERALD MOUNTAIN ( wherever she might PERMIT him to reach ). Feeling at once the sharpness of her scales and the blistering heat that consumed his very senses. All his fury? All his anguish? All his rage extinguished the moment he made contact ( ... ) a shuddering exhale instead wracking the boy's form as he grounded himself in the knowledge of how infinitely small a single serpent might be in the face of a DRAGON.

How he wished he might know what it was like to inhale rage and exhale fire. That he might, if only for a moment, be the very MONSTER that all except Rhaegar seemed to see him as. ❝ What do you see when you look at me, Nagini? ❞ Tongue silvered by serpent's venom, speaking in a tongue meant only for two. ❝ I know Rhaegar has researched our line beyond what I've told him. And ... I know that if he knows, you do too. Dark magic courses through both of our veins and yet, I - ❞ The voice of his father stings like a lash: have always been a failure to the Gaunt name.

『 ✰♪ 』     something     deep     inside     of     her     aches     to     close     the     distance     between     them,     to     practically     sprint     into     his     arms     for     an     embrace     that     nearly     always     resulted     in     her     feet     lifting     off     the     ground     no     matter     how     old     she’s     gotten.     but     she     remains     rooted     to     her     spot,     trembling     with     a     bizarre     mixture     of     debilitating     fear     &&     indescribable     heart     break.     aquamarine     and     ruby     eyes     belonging     to     these     nightmarish     doppelgängers     look     at     her     and     there’s     no     warmth     there,     no     love.

if     he     kills     her     ——     will     that     be     the     last     thing     she     sees?     her     papa’s     face     looking     at     her     with     contempt.     even     if     she     knows     it’s     not     him,     will     that     even     soften     the     blow?     if     he     had     {      a     sliver     of     kindness     in     him,     she     might     request     an     embrace      }      —-     just     so     she     could     pretend     for     a     moment     or     two     that     everything     is     normal,     that     this     man     is     her     father     &&     he     loves     her     so,     so     much.     that     this     is     the     man     and     the     dragon     that     would     never     let     anyone     /     anything     harm     a     strand     of     hair     on     her     head. 

valyria     has     tried     to     maintain     eye     contact     with     him,      a     faux     display     of     confidence.     but     she     finds     herself     tearing     her     gaze     away,     swallowing     the     lump     in     her     throat.     she     takes     a     step     backwards     like     a     deer     {      desperately     wanting     to     bolt      }     as     fast     as     it     can     but     afraid     to     move     too     much     or     too     fast.     ❝     i     want…❞     —-     my     father     /     my     nagini     —-     ❝…i     want     to     go     home     ❞     she     says     in     a     voice     she     doesn’t     recognize     as     her     own.

𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰.     not the eerie,     dead kind of quiet from the graveyard,     where every breath felt borrowed and every shadow looked like a curse waiting to land.     no     —     this quiet is gentler.      softer.     the kind that settles between two people when words feel too small for what they’ve both lived through.     cedric doesn’t say anything at first.     just sits next to @rh4egar on the edge of the astronomy tower,     legs dangling out over the stone ledge,      fingers tapping restlessly against his knee like they’re trying to shake off ghosts.     he should feel lucky.     they made it out.     the cup spat them back into the chaos of the third task maze,     the roar of a dragon still echoing in his head and the air split with screams and spells.      but ever since….    the world’s felt wrong.     off-axis.     like he’s still standing in that graveyard,     frozen in time.

❝     we should be dead.     ❞     it slips out before he can stop it.      blunt.     raw.     he swallows,     glancing sideways at rhaegar     —     not because he doubts him,     but because he doesn’t.     ❝     i keep thinking about how close it was.     if that hadn’t—     ❞     he cuts himself off.     there’s a pit in his stomach that no amount of chocolate frogs or     ‘thank merlin’     hugs can fill.     his voice softens.     ❝     i still don’t understand how you knew.     about the trap.     about him.     ❞     a pause.     the stars above them glint like shards of glass.     ❝     and i don’t know how you’re just…     here.     like it didn’t almost end.     ❞

<3'd for a starter

ㅤtwilight deepened as they passed beneath twisted and watchful boughs, and fallen leaves crunched under idly steps. the ancient woods east of thursheimr held many secrets still, and one seemed to follow them with quiet reverence: nagini, ancient and grand like the mountains there, watched over mentor and mentee. sometimes, the drengr could swear she smiled whenever he stared long enough. just an impression.

ㅤso håkan glanced back, as he often did. there, at a distance, prowled his loyal night fury, shoulders low and eyes sharp, moving with an oddly feline grace, as though trying to match the rhythm of the larger dragon. a child mimicking a parent, or perhaps a challenger eyeing a throne. or desiring to impress. most certainly the latter. it seemed to amuse even rhaegar, who walked a step ahead, his voice drifting into the trees like wind through reeds: ‘it’s been long since i saw a fury such as he, so lively.’ at first, hiccup simply let out a low chuckle, shoulders lifting in that expressive, wordless way of his. toothless had always been fascinated by older dragons; it wasn’t anything new. and really, who could blame him? dragons like nagini were more legend than beast. the dragon rider was grateful she was patient, her long breath sometimes grazing the nape of their necks like a breeze scented with stone and storm, as the underbrush grew denser the farther they wandered.

ㅤthen, håkan paused. something in rhaegar’s words clung to his thoughts like burrs to wool: “wait”, his cracked voice called, though he had pressed his pace, “you said—” but the forest bit back, muffling him temporarily. an exposed root snagged his boot, and he tumbled forward with a grunt, chin scraping against damp earth. he rolled to his feet almost as quickly as he fell, brushing dirt from his cheek with the grace of someone too proud to groan, only puff. he jogged to rejoin the scholar (he then understood some of the night fury’s own struggles as he tried catching his breath): “—y-you said it’s been ‘long’? do you mean you’ve seen others like him before? another night fury?”

         the  dinosaur  was  uneasy  ,  the  weight  at  her  back  a  great  unknown  .   she  remembered  ,  vaguely  ,  the  events  that  had  gifted  her  the  wings  .   she  remembered  her  alpha  ,  the  one  responsible  for  her  uniqueness  .   she  remembered  iolai  ,  one  of  the  only  friends  that  she  really  had  outside  of  alpha's  weird  pack  .   then  ,  everything  had  gone  black  .   she  had  desperately  wanted  to  fulfill  her  alpha's  plans  ,  help  him  wreak  the  havoc  on  the  world  that  he  deserved  .   yet  ,  as  she  managed  standing  on  her  hind  legs  ,  she  could  not  find  his  scent  .   she  could  not  find  the  scent  of  anyone  ,  or  of  any  creature  ,  that  she  had  known  .   the  indominus  tried  craning  her  neck  ,  catching  a  flash  of  black  on  her  right  side  .   she  did  it  again  on  the  other  ,  seeing  the  white  of  the  wings  .

        iolai's  wings  .   

         a  low  keening  sound  rumbled  through  the  indominus  as  she  attempted  to  flex  the  wings  .   they  moved  !   they  moved  &&  it  almost  felt  [  …  ]  natural  in  a  way  .   although  ,  she  wasn't  sure  what  else  was  considered  natural  .   she  shifted  her  stance  ,  forearms  on  the  ground  as  she  made  her  way  forward  .   she  did  not  know  what  she  was  searching  for  ,  but  hunger  clawed  at  her  stomach  in  a  way  that  she  had  not  known  on  the  island  .   she  always  had  a  vast  array  of  food  ,  provided  to  her  in  an  almost  loving  fashion  by  her  alpha  .   maybe  she  could  find  her  way  back  to  him  .   still  ,  it  was  not  something  that  she  could  do  when  hunger  threatened  to  overwhelm  her  thoughts  .   thoughts  .   huh  ,  she  did  have  those  .   her  intelligence  was  by  no  means  as  great  as  her  alpha's  ,  but  the  indominus  had  some  of  his  gifts  .

         the  wind  blew  ,  making  her  aware  of  another  scent  .   it  was  new  ,  powerful  ,  &&  perhaps  one  she  did  not  want  to  encounter  at  that  moment  .   the  dinosaur  hesitated  ,  only  for  a  moment  ,  before  using  her  wings  to  propel  herself  skyward  .   it  was  not  the  most  graceful  thing  she  had  ever  managed  ,  &&  she  doubted  that  she  would  fly  like  the  birds  she  so  envied  ,  but  the  indominus  managed  to  get  to  an  outcropping  of  rocks  that  kept  her  off  the  ground  .   she  could  camouflage  ,  using  the  rocks  to  her  advantage  ,  but  she  doubted  that  ability  transferred  to  her  wings  .   it  would  have  been  helpful  ,  so  she  simply  hid  her  size  as  much  as  possible  .
