After seeing an article about Maryland and Tennessee residents running the KKK out of their towns during attempts at rallying, I'm thinking about a time I also protested a white supremacist rally. But I'm thinking twice about it after reading the article. Most of the people protesting were white. I'm also white. Should white people use their privilege to protest white supremacists, or are we impeding POC from defending themselves? Is it even our place? I want to do the right thing.
If the neighborhood is diverse (POC + White), go ahead.
If the neighborhood is not (mostly POC), still go, but as a show of solidarity. Big difference. Stand in background to add numbers, fill in spots and don't speak unless asked.
If the neighborhood is mostly White, don't walk, RUN to it. Preferably with a 4 x 4. Just don't use it...
... unless provoked. Then by all means... swing batta batta batta batta batta SWING!
(FYI: I am not promoting violence. But I am promoting "things people can walk away from" and a 4 x 4 is one of them.)
