Margaret was always thrilled when her sister came to visit, despite the chaos her house was usually left in. Daria had a habit of trying to “decorate” whenever she was there, and Margaret didn’t really have the heart to tell her no. Today, though, Daria was more subdued, and the two girls relaxed on her floor, trading anecdotes of their lives, and laughing like they had when they were children. They were only interrupted when a knock came at Margaret’s door. She sprung to her feet to answer, and met Lest as she opened it. 

“Oh, good afternoon,” she greeted him. Lest smiled, and Meg would be lying if she said it didn’t do things to her heart.

“Good afternoon,” Lest replied. “Just checking to see if you were busy today?” Margaret smiled apologetically.

“My sister’s in town, so I’m not free,” she said. Lest nodded. 

“Okay, some other time,” he said, and with a wave he left. Meg tried not to sigh as she closed the door.

“So,” Daria started behind her. “You two dating yet?” Meg nearly jumped out of her skin.

“Why would you say that?” she asked, trying to feign casual. Daria clicked her tongue.

“You’re smitten that’s why,” she said. She rested her chin in her hands. “Just ask him out. What are you waiting for?” Margaret shook her head.

“It’s not that easy. You’ll understand when you’re older,” she sighed. 

“I’m not much younger than you, and I know about love,” Daria responded, drawing out the syllables in “love.” Meg shook her head.

“Hush, you, or we’ll start talking about your non-existent love-life,” she shot back.

“So? At least we’re tied in that aspect,” Daria said. Margaret resisted the urge to throw a pillow at her. She loved having a little sister, she reminded herself.
