“Are you going to keep pacing like that, or are you gonna come here, cuddle me and keep me warm?”
Suo smiled cheekily. Although the smile did not quite reach his eyes. Fever made his head dizzy, and his face was flushed red with too much heat burning his sore body.
“I’m tryin’ t’understand this stupid recipe,” Sakura mumbled, frowning at his bright phone screen, “Man, why’s cookin’ so goddamn complicated? How the hell Kotoha learn all these stuff?”
“Kotoha-san is not the only one in this town who knows how to cook a decent meal, you know?” Suo quipped.
Sakura shot his boyfriend an exasperated stare. “You people with big brains are built different,” he grumbled.
Suo stifled a laugh. “Well, that includes Hiragi-san and Umemiya-san too.”
“Am I actually the stupid one here?”
“You are brilliant, Haru-kun. Cooking is just not your forte.”
Sakura rolled his eyes. His fingers busily scrolled through all the online recipes, only pausing a bit to grab a heavy blanket and drape it over his sickly boyfriend.
“Seriously, don’t worry about me.” Suo smiled weakly. “I’m fine. We could just order something like usual.”
“Didn’t ya hear the thunder? No one makes deliveries in this fuckin’ weather.”
“Then, we can wait out the storm and order later,” Suo suggested, presenting the obvious fact.
“You are sick, Hayato. You need to eat soon.”
“You could just make me something simple. No need to go out of your way.”
“I gave you scrambled egg and rice, but you threw out your entire lunch.”
“I won’t throw up again. Promise.”
Sakura exhaled roughly, hands bunching up the blanket a little too tightly. He briskly adjusted it until his feverish boyfriend was completely bundled up into a human tortilla on their comfy couch.
“Look, I wiped the floor with an entire gang using only my bare hands. Alone. A stupid porridge gonna be easy peasy once I get the hang of it.
Suo chuckled, though his gaze was a little concerned. “Please don’t equate cooking with fighting.”
“It’s a challenge! I was once a Bofurin Leader. I will conquer any challenge that comes my way!”
“No, seriously, I need you to get out of that violent mindset and keep our kitchen intact. If this apartment burns down right now, I don’t think I’ve got enough energy to run.”
Sakura scoffed. “Have some faith in me, will ya?”
Though, admittedly, his boyfriend’s concern was not baseless. Just five minutes into the kitchen and Sakura was already sweating; struggling to figure out just how he should stir the rice, how much force he should use, why the hell did the rice keep sticking to the pan and whether that was normal.
“The chicken looks fine, I guess,” Sakura mumbled, eyeing the boiled chicken that seemed a little too pale.
Thankfully, when he tried the porridge, it tasted just fine on his tongue.
When he got back, Suo looked almost half-asleep on the couch with a random Doraemon movie playing on TV. He smiled weakly at Sakura. His gaze sparkled when it landed on the bowl of porridge and the cup of steaming herbal tea that his boyfriend was carrying.
“Oh, wow, you even made the tea,” Suo commented.
“You always drink tea no matter what the occasion,” Sakura said matter-of-factly.
His boyfriend grinned and took the bowl from him. “Is it good?”
“It better be,” Sakura muttered.
Suo took a spoonful of the porridge, paused for a bit, and gave an unreadable stare, during which Sakura’s mind overthinking fast. Finally, after a minute, a gentle smile broke on Suo’s face.
“It’s warm.”
“It is.”
“Just like you.”
Sakura tried to come up with a biting comeback, ending up closing his mouth again. Before he knew it, a pair of soft lips already touched his reddened cheek.
“Thank you,” Suo whispered into his ear, warm breath tickling his neck.
“Yeah, ugh, whatever.”
Sakura didn’t resist when Suo spoon-fed him the porridge straight out of his bowl, completely forgetting that his boyfriend was sick.
The next day, they ended up sharing the flu and the blanket together.

“Are you done pretending that you learn something just from staring at that same page for hours?”
“Fuck off. I’m trying to study for real here.”
Sakura grunted as he flipped the page of his math book. He immediately frowned at what’s written there. It seemed that trigonometry still remained as one of his biggest enemies.
“You know, Haru-kun, you could’ve just asked for my help instead of, well, isolating yourself in this dusty room for hours trying to magically cram it all into your head.”
Sakura shot his boyfriend a heated glare. “If you’re not gonna help, better fuck off now.”
“Pfft.” Suo’s lips curve with an amused chuckle. “Oh, come on. Don’t glare at me like that. You love me. And you know I always help you. Every. Single. Time.”
The last three words were emphasized by knocking Sakura’s weightless backpack off the dusty wooden desk. Suo let out a quiet hum as he settled himself right next to his grumpy boyfriend.
“What chapter are you on now?”
Suo made a gesture for the book. Sakura reluctantly handed it to him, blushing faintly, a little embarrassed at showing the lack of progress he had made since their patrol ended hours ago. This time, though, Suo did not mock him for it.
“Okay, this one’s easy peasy. Here, let me explain it.”
Suo leaned down to scribble something on Sakura’s notebook. The lack of distance between them led Sakura to catch the faint scent of Suo’s cologne—it’s sweet honey with a layer of floral scent.
“Earth to Sakura Haruka? Hello?”
A teasing smile curved Suo’s lips. His eye sparkled with mischief as he snapped his fingers teasingly to earn back his boyfriend’s attention.
“W-What?” Sakura spluttered, face reddening, his shoulders stiffened at getting caught.
At his boyfriend’s flustered reaction, Suo merely laughed. “God, you are so obvious. I know I’ve got a nice face card, but I thought you wanted me to teach you? Well, if you really don’t need me here…”
Suo trailed off when Sakura abruptly stood up, desk creaking against the floor, his face twisted into a scowl that reflected his irritation along with some fond emotions that were left unspoken.
But there was no need for words.
Not when Sakura grabbed his cheeky boyfriend’s face, smushing it between his palm, and claimed those smirking lips.
Suo gasped, eye widening in a pleasant surprise, before his hands found purchase on Sakura’s shoulders to deepen the kiss.
After a minute or so, Sakura let go of the kiss. His face was as bright as ever, red from the kiss and the warm afternoon light slipping through the windows. Though, Suo was no better. His face flushed slightly, such a rare sight, while his lips curled into a soft grin that radiated fondness.
“Do you still want to study?” Suo asked teasingly.
Sakura hunched his shoulders with a pout. “You know I hate math, but Umemiya won’t stop preachin’ about setting a good example if I wanna get to the top and be a leader to these guys.”
“Hmm, how about doing it at my place, then? I baked some strawberry pies yesterday. They’re as red as your face. Very cute. And tasty, of course, just like you.” Suo grinned and swapped his thumb against Sakura’s lower lip for emphasis.
“…Fine,” Sakura mumbled, yet the excitement was too clear in his voice.
They spent the rest of the afternoon studying—and kissing. Mostly kissing.
