A False Light Scene:
That will be rewritten:
“Sister,” Yugi heard someone call, dragging her out of the painless black of unconsciousness into a world of hurt, “Sister, please.”
“Anesan...” She whimpered, not fully awake and not quite recognising the voice, “Five more minutes...please...”
“Please, my lioness, wake up.” The voice was male, soft and concerned, not entirely dissimilar to her own, “I need you.”
“I'm not...” Yugi mumbled, beginning to force herself awake, her throat sore from where Anubis had choked her until she had passed out, “I'm not Ane...the Princess.” She did not expect him to react, he was a memory after all. Nothing more, nothing less. She was all alone.
“What?” The Prince's question startled her into full awareness and she stared at him for a moment, finding him bound to a pole just across from her, as helpless as she was, as he frowned, confused, “My lioness, this is no time for games.”
“I'm not her. I've never been her.” Yugi forced out, staring at the floor, not looking at the Prince, “I'm...I'm a body double.” There was a sharp intake of breath from the Prince as she continued, “A...Anubis knows that. He grabbed me anyway...and I'm useless...I can't...” Her voice trembled with fear, tears beginning to flow. She trailed off and tried to pull herself together as she tried to think of something, anything she could do to protect herself and the God monsters from Anubis and came up empty as she tried to reach for the knots binding her wrists behind the post she was bound to and found they had been put out of her grasp.
“It's...it's okay.” His voice shook too, like he was not quite sure what to say but the relief in his tone was obvious as he continued, “It's okay. We're going to get out of here. I’m Atem. What's your name?”
Yugi's breath caught in her throat as she looked up and found the Prince watching her, concern for her on his face. He was reacting to her. He was actually reacting. He was not trapped in his role. She had an ally. “Y...Yugi...my name is Yugi...my sister calls me Imoto...”
“Imoto.” Atem nodded, smiling at her, trying to be reassuring, “Can I call you that?”
“Y...yes.” Yugi nodded, smiling slightly as her fear abated with the news that she was not alone, even as her heart lurched at Atem calling her sister. “We need to get out of here...I'm Priestess trained and I...I'm linked to something really powerful. Anubis wants to steal the connection from me. I can't let him take it and we need to get you home.”
Determination seeped into his features as he nodded, “We'll get you home too. I just need to get my wrists free and then I'll come and untie you.”
Yugi looked around for something that she could use to cut the ropes holding her, or kick over to Atem so he could break his own ropes and a plan started to unfold as she spotted a shard of a broken pot nearby, she could not quite reach it well enough to drag it closer, but she managed to kick it towards the Prince who grinned at her as it spun close enough to him that he could use his feet to sweep it behind him. He grabbed the sharp edged shard and started cutting the ropes binding him.
“You know, Imoto, I'm impressed.” Atem admitted as he worked, startling Yugi who had been keeping an eye on the entrance, “You're not my sister, but you still didn't cry out when they were trying to make me behave by hurting you. Why would you do that?”
“Just because I'm not Ane...the Princess, doesn't mean I should give in to bullies.” Yugi shrugged, giving him a rueful smile and stopping herself from calling Atem's sister Anesan. “And if they want something, I'm not giving them it.”
Atem laughed, “I like you.” His exclamation made Yugi relax and grin, feeling the knot in her chest that had been making her feel like it was hard to breathe easing up.
Yugi was about to reply when heard noise outside the entrance and saw fingers grab the cover. “Atem. Wait!”
He froze as she hissed at him, palming the shard so whoever was entering the shelter could not see it. He was just in time as Anubis snarled one last thing at someone outside and then ripped open the door cover, stalking across the tent before slamming Yugi back against the pole. “What have you done?!” He demanded, holding her in place by her throat.
“I...don't know...what you're...talking about...”Yugi struggled to gasp out.
“Let her go!” Atem snapped out, furious and struggling against the ropes holding him, trying to cut himself free so he could try and make Anubis let go.
“You know exactly what I'm talking about, little Pharaoh!” Anubis growled in her face. Yugi saw Atem freeze up at Anubis's words. “Things are not running how they should. The men aren't acting correctly! You've done something to break my game!”
“Actually Anubis.” Atem spoke up, his level tone catching Anubis's attention more than an angry demand would have, “You broke your own game.”
Anubis released Yugi and wheeled around to glower at the Prince. Yugi collapsed at the bottom of her pole, coughing and wheezing in the air that had previously been denied to her as he seized Anesan's brother by the collar and slammed the Prince against the wooden pillar, causing him to drop the pot shard as he cried out in pain. “How dare you talk outside your role?!”
Yugi was confused. She had thought this was a memory, not a game as she watched the scene, “You're the one who broke character first.” Atem smirked at him, “My sister wasn't Pharaoh when I was last in this tent. By naming her Vessel of the Pharaoh and little Pharaoh, you've broken her role, giving her freedom to act as she wishes and by extension that means we can too. And that's not all, you've cheated.”
“I haven't cheated.” Anubis snarled, slamming Atem against the pillar again, forcing another pained cry from the Prince. Yugi snapped out of her shock at the sound and started trying to get to the knots again, hiding a smile when she realised that Anubis's latest round of ''let's choke Yugi' had shifted the ropes enough that she could reach them. In the back of her mind she could feel the Princess's fury at the mistreatment of her brother as Anubis continued,. “At no point have I broken any...”
“At what point has Imoto been able to make an unfettered move?” Atem challenged. “At what point have you done anything but gloat at or abuse her? When have you explained the rules? In what way is the playing field fair? I should...”
“Do not challenge me.” Atem let out a winded cry as Anubis punched him in the stomach, “I killed you once, I can do it again, boy.”
