She picked up a shoe on the way into the ball. It had been lying on the steps. Abandoned and shining with the glitter of gemstones and far nicer than anything Ella could have managed. As soon as she placed her foot into it, she realised it fit perfectly, almost reshaping itself to fit to her. The other shoe appeared too, and Ella recognised magic when she saw it working even if her dress didnâtâŠ
(NOTE: There is some gore and a little bit of an adult theme in here. Read at Your Own Risk!)
Sleeping. She was sleeping. But no one else knew that. Well, except for Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather. They knew. They were the ones that had put her in the middle of the giant bed anyway. Everyone in the castle was having a magnificent party for Prince Phillip. Well, now King Phillip the Magnificent. Flora had put Aurora into a beautiful pink ballgown, put her makeup on, and had brushed out her hair. Fauna had gone and retrieved a single red rose and placed it in Auroraâs unmoving hands. Merriweather, for her part in this, went and cleaned the bedroom top to bottom. Lastly, all three fairy sisters went and put an everlasting live spell upon Aurora, her rose, and castle bedroom. Should it take King Phillip longer to find her. Â
âI donât understand why she had to be betrothed to that thing they call king!â Stated a grumpy Merriweather. Â
âBecause he was the only prince at her christening, dear.â Fauna put simply.
âThat doesnât mean he doesnât love her,â Flora said, putting an end to their argument.
The sisters began to fly over the kingdom watching the festivities going on below. They had all decided not to let the rest sleep. They wanted to see what would happen if Aurora was left to be found on her own and not with their help. That had been a mistake. King Phillip was a horrible king. He took what he wanted, eat what he could get his hands on, had 5 wivesâ, and slept with more than just them. Each wife becoming younger as he got older. His first wife, Merenda, was 33. Just two years younger than him and had given him 5 children. They had been married since Philipâs 20th birthday. Â Amy, his 2nd wife at the age of 24, was 26 years old and pregnant with her 3rd child. Sophia was wife number 3 and at the age of 21, had just given birth to her 4th child. She had married Philip when he was 26. Miya was 19 years old and was his 4th wife and had been made his wife when he had turned 31. She was 3 months along with her first child. And finally, Lily was King Philipâs fifth wife at the age of 17. She had married him just 3 days ago and had yet to conceive a child. He already had 13 children, counting 2 on the way. Over the last 17 years, no one had noticed the overgrown vines on one of the castle towers. Or the three old women following the king, or when they were at the birth of each of the kingâs children, or each of his wedding.
*(Wife age when married: Merenda-18, Amy-15, Sophia-12, Miya-15, and Lily-16
King age when married: Merenda-20, Amy-24, Sophia-26, Miya-31, and Lily-35)*
âI TOLD you that having him as a king would be bad!â Shouted an old woman in blue to her sister in red. The third sister in green was trying to keep them from ripping each otherâs heads off. They were in a secret little alcove of the castle that no one knew about.
âI KNOW! I know. We should have just invited Maleficent to her christening and non-of this would have happened.â Replied Flora.
âWell, actually dearie. He would still have 5 or 6 wives.â Fauna stated.
When this had all stated, the sisters had expected King Philip to find Aroura right when he came back from killing Maleficent. Then three months later Old King Hubert had passed, and he had yet to even look for her. Merriweather had accidentally flown into the young kingâs royal chambers to find him making the visiting Princess Rina into a Queen. After that, the sisters had sworn to never go into his bedroom again. Â
âWell, what are we supposed to do now? We must wake Aroura up somehow. And Iâm pretty sure the Great and Gentle king, is out of the picture.â Flora asked.
They thought for a moment. But their thoughts were interrupted by sounds of screaming. Following the screams had brought them to the courtyard where King Philip was on his ass shaking and screaming for someone to âkill that monster!â. He was staring up at a beautiful blond in a long pink ballgown with ruby red lips and holding a single rose. The young girl, around 16 years old, was holding the first crowned princeâs hand. It seems King Philipâs firstborn, Prince James, had climbed the overgrown tower and woken Princess Aurora. Â
~~~~~~
As the young girl Prince James had found sat down for dinner King Philip looked at her in disgust. His wifeâs and children might have separated him from her, but he could still see it. âWhy must that thing sit and eat with us!â Demanded the king. His new wife, who he had made sit unnaturally close to him for a dinner, looked up at the young girl. She was beautiful. More so than the rest of them. She had a soft aura to her that made all the queenâs fell calm. Her violet eyes held a soft but powerful look to them. As if she were looking into a childâs face at telling them that the tiny little cut on their finger was nothing.
âSheâs here because she is our guest father. She is my guest. And she can stay as long as she would like to.â Stated the prince. That had been the first time any of his male children had spoken back to him. The three females would receive a slap across the face and be sent to their rooms. The king glared at his eldest. He then grabbed the closest wife by the arm and dragged her to the closest bedroom, slamming the doorâs behind him.
~~~~~
As the king walked the hallway to his bedroom, leaving his wife in the room, the bells rang through the night. *Dong* He rounded the corner to find the young girl from that afternoon standing by his door. She looked beautiful, rather than what he had seen that morning. She wore a crisp white sleeping gown and her hair into a long bread. *Dong* They looked at each other as he stood by the door. *Dong* As he walked in with her right behind him, the king could feel himself getting excited. *Dong* As the foolish King Philip turned around, he felt something pears his chest. *Dong*Â Â
A scream ripped through the castle. It had come from the king's room.
There in the bed, in midmorning, lay King Philip. Dead. With a rose through his heart, blooming. Next to him lay a rotting corpse of a young girl, barely over 16, in a dirty ripped pink ballgown. Her hair the color of dirt, although you could make out the pure golden blond that it used to be, was just tuffs, with a small crown still upon her head. It was stained with rust and dirt. She was holding the rose that went through his chest. No one knew, except the three old women in red, blue, and green, that today was the 17th anniversary of Princess Auroraâs birth and death. Because 17 years ago, she had not fallen asleep, she had died, not due to the spindle, but because her prince had chosen to go back on his promise of having her for his wife and had slept with 30 others, he had made the same promise and never kept. Her prince had never come for her.

I wrote this for my creative writing class. It was Halloween and we were told to write a story for a reverse fairytale story. I put them together.
A prince wants to go out and slum it with the poor towns folks and has the help of a fairy godmother to make him look like a peasant but he will go back to his prince clothes once midnight strikes.
He goes down and meets a poor girl that catches his eye and they spend the night together and fall in love.
But then midnight strikes and he dips leaving behind only his royal handkerchief for the girl. But she does know she met a prince so she's like 'hey is this your handkerchief?' to all the guys in the town but they all say no.
Then the prince has to ride past the town and sees the girl again. He asks if she has a handkerchief and by making himself dirty, proves that he's the guy she met.

January (2018) Day 13 Â Magic
AU NaLu  6K+ words
âGod, I hate him!â she screams to no one but the birds chirping away overhead. Â
As she trudges through the forest, Lucy shifts the heavy sack she carries, filled with whatever possessions she could take in her haste to leave. Â It has been almost a week since she had run away from her village and her father and since he is most likely searching for her, the young girl is constantly on the move staying as far away from any roads or travelled paths to avoid being found. Â Tired and thirsty, she stops along a small river is thrilled with the cool liquid quenching her parched throat. Â
After filling her water-gourd she sits back just to rest for a spell since her feet are aching from all the walking and close her eyes, enjoying the rays of the sun. Â Exhaling, Lucy has no idea where she is heading, but just this small taste of freedom makes her feel better. Â
And thatâs when the sound of a twig snapping catches her attention. Â Worried it could be someone looking for her, she stands up ready to grab her bag and go, but no one comes out of the bushes. Â A second sound of disturbed foliage, followed by a whimper, like someone or something in pain. Â
Now thatâs something the healer cannot ignore. Â Lucy picks up her sack and cautiously pushes her way through the underbrush. Â âIs someone hurt?â she calls out. Â âif you are donât be afraid, I can help you.â Â Nothing responds, but as soon as she makes it into a small clearing, the sight in front of her stops her advancement; a red dragon.
âBut dragons have all gone extinct,â she ponders, âright? Â Tch, clearly not unless my eyes are deceiving me.â Â The dragon has frozen in place, lowering its head ready to attack if prompted. Â Lucy puts her bag down and holds her hands out to show she is not a threat. Â âI wonât hurt you,â softening her voice, âI promise.â
Scanning over the creature, it appears to be about 8 feet tall with the girth of a bull, wings folded down over its back, large claws on its feet, and a long snout. Â But as she looks closer, the young girl can see a large wound to one of itâs wings. Â Maybe it was attacked by another animal or possibly even poachers or hunters thinking they had lucked into such a rare and priceless find. Â
âPlease donât be frightened,â still holding out her hands, she slowly inches her way towards it. Â âMy name is Lucy and Iâm a healer, do you understand?â Â Watching its reactions, the dragon stays hunched but still doesnât move. Â âI can fix your wing if you let me.â Â Close enough now to touch it, she allows the dragon to smell her hands, it snorts, and lies all the way down. Â âThank you, Mr. Dragon, this might hurt at first, but I swear on my mother, youâll be good as new in a few minutes.â
The dragon simply watches as the young girl utters a string of incantations and her hands start to glow. Â As she lays them over the wound, it feels a slight burning, tingling sensation, and now the area around the wing begins to glow as well, the wound slowly closing-up. Â She continues to mutter the strange language with her eyes closed until the injury is completely healed. Â
Finally, she steps away, no longer glowing, âall better.â Â Lucy smiles when the dragon sits up and stretches out the wing as if examining the leathery appendage. Â It turns to her, is that a smile on its face? Â But thatâs the last thing she remembers thinking before passing out from the drain on her energy. Â
When Lucy opens her eyes again, all she can see is darkness and feels something warm against her, or more like she is resting against a large warm body. Â She narrows her eyes, trying to adjust to the conditions around her and after a couple minutes, they begin to focus. Â A very dim illumination, possibly moonlight comes into view, telling the young woman it is already evening, and with that, an outline of the dragon she helped earlier finally confirms what she had assumed all along.
âI must have passed out again,â healing such a large magical creature must have taken more energy than she had expected, âand it brought me here?â Â Looking around a little, âBut where is here? Â Oh no my belongings!â Â Lucy tries to get up quietly, but the dragon wraps itâs tail around her keeping her close. Â
âLook, thanks for watching over me when I fainted but I need to get my things, that bag had everything I own in this world.â The dragon snorts and points with one its claws near the entrance. Â Lucy squints and sees the bag. Â âOh, thank God,â she breathes a sigh of relief. Â âBut really, could you please let me up? Â I know itâs nighttime, but I need to find food, or I might pass out again.â Â
Again, the dragon snorts but stands up. âThank you,â she takes a step, but it blocks her path.  âWhat, I thoughtâŠâ It taps the ground with itâs foot.  âI donât understandâŠâ  It pushes her back a couple feet with its tail and taps its foot on the ground a second time.  âYou want me to stay?  But I need foodâŠâ Without another gesture, the dragon walks out of the cave.  âGreat,â Lucy thinks, âWell hopefully it comes back with something.â
While Lucy waits for the dragon to return, she grabs her bag and pulls it closer to where they were resting and searching through itâs contents, the young healer finds her glow wand; now at least she has some light. Â She leaves the mouth of the cave and finds a dense pine forest surrounding it, and based on the temperature, itâs probably a little higher in the mountains than most would travel to. Â She shivers and rubs her arms, maybe she should try to get a fire going? Â
Searching through the brush and bushes, she grabs as many twigs and sticks as she can carry, hauling them back to the cave. Â But getting a fire started is not exactly easy. Â Because of the higher elevation, the foliage of the area is damp and all she is managing to produce is some smoke. Â âUgh!â she tosses the flints to the ground, opting to simply wrap herself up in a blanket until the dragon returns.
Luckily for the girl, that doesnât take long; a rush of air into the cave signals its flighted return.  The dragon walks up to her and drops a nice sized hare at her feet.  âWow, thanks⊠ But I canât eat it raw.â  It snorts and picks the rabbit back up going to the entrance before dropping it and blows a stream of fire onto it, cooking it well.  âAwesome!â Lucy shrieks, âCan you help me with that too?â and points to her pile of sticks.  âSo, I can see while I eat?â  The dragon obliges and easily sets it ablaze.  âYay!â she throws her arms around its neck, âThank you!â Â
Sheâs a little surprised when the dragon turns its head and seems to nuzzle her back as she hugs it.  âItâs such a sweet dragonâŠâ she tightens her grip, âand to think all the stories said they were mean and thatâs why humans wiped them outâŠâ
When she lets go, the dragon simply goes back to lying down where it had been, so Lucy takes the rabbit and a knife from her bag, to remove the outer fur and skin.  It was nice and hot, âMmm⊠so yummy,â she groans, âI havenât had any meat since I left my village.â  The dragon simply watches her while she eats and talksâŠ
âIf your wondering why a young girl would be roaming through a forest unaccompanied, itâs because I ran away from home,â Lucy looks up from her food. Â âI donât even know why Iâm telling you this, or if you can understand anything Iâm saying but, itâs kinda nice to talk to someone and, I just have this strange feeling like I can trust you.â Â
The dragon tilts its head slightly before resting it on the ground as if to say, continue. Â âYou see my father, he was pressuring me to marry some guy from a neighboring village that Iâve never met before, just so he could combine our clans. Â I told him off.â She sighs, looking down at the ground, âMy mother would have never allowed him to do it, but she died when I was little. Â Ugh! Â He treats me like some possession he can simply barter away, and to think I am his only child. Â I mean what kind of parent does that?â Another sigh. Â
âBut anyways,â smiling again, âHe canât force me to do anything, Iâm an adult whether he likes it or not and I have my own aspirations for my life and thanks to my mom, Iâm stronger than he is.â Â Lucy makes her hand glow, âI inherited her healing gifts when she died,â the glowing stops, âand her love of the stars. Â Looking back at the dragon. Â âOne day, Iâll settle down, have children, but it will be on my terms, with whomever I fall in love with.â Â She chuckles, âMaybe Iâll even catch me a Prince.â Â Â Â Â
She throws the bones and scraps into the fire and walks over to the creature, sitting in front of it. Â Â âAnyways, are you all alone?â staring into itâs emerald green eyes, âIâve only heard legends about mean dragons before.â Â Lucy leans back and smiles, âBut youâre really nice, Iâm glad I ran into you.â Â With a big yawn, she stretches her arms above her head, âI guess I should get some sleep now that Iâve eaten.â Lowering her gaze, her voice softens, âYou wonât leave me alone, will you?â Â
Without a second of hesitation, the dragon reaches out with its front legs and scoops her up, placing her against itâs side before wrapping its tail around her too. Â âGood night,â Lucy murmurs as she snuggles in, and the dragon curls its head, closing its eyes. Â
The next morning, the dragon wakes up the sleeping blonde, nuzzling her with itâs snout. Â She stretches and yawns with a smile, âGood Morning.â Â It had been the most peaceful sleep she had had in a long time, maybe years. Â
Standing and stretching a second time, now in the light of day she can see her surroundings better. Â It had brought them to a simple cave, but based on some of the claw marks and compacted soils in some areas, it was no random cave. Â
âDo you live here?â inquiring of the creature, âIs this your home?â Â It shakes its head, no. Â âYou just come here a lot?â Â The dragon looks down. Â âSo, if this isnât your actual home, where would that be?â Â It looks towards the cave entrance. Â âSomewhere else?â Lucy asks. Â Â
Prompting the young girl with its snout and tail, it pushes her towards itâs back. Â âYou want me to get on, your back?â she looks at the dragon. Â Again, itâs tail prods her movement as if to say hurry up and get on. Â âAlright,â she manages to climb up using its back leg as a step, and once on top she looks around for some way to hold on. Â The scales around the top of its neck are tiled, itâs her best option. Â âPlease, donât forget my things.â Â Picking up the strap of her bag with its teeth it walks out of the cave and takes flight once clear. Â Â
It soars high into the powder blue sky, heading towards the East.  âWow!â she giggles, âThis is so cool!â  To experience something that no human could dream of doing was amazing; she hugs his neck, âIt feels so free up hereâŠâ Â
As they travel, Lucy spends half of the time hugging to the dragon and the other watching the landscape pass under them. Â It had taken them to a cave high in the mountains so as they descend, it flies over the forest, passes fields, and rivers, and a couple of small villages. Â
But soon a large one comes into view. Â âIsnât that the capital?â Â She had only been there once when her father wanted her to be eye candy for some potential commodity brokers. Â âYou live in Kelekona?!â asking again. Â Of course, it canât respond to her question, but the answer becomes clear when it heads directly for the palace. Â
âWait, thereâs no wayâŠâ  âThis dragonâs home is at the palace?!â  ââŠthe palace is your home?!â
The dragon lands in one of the enclosed courtyards and as Lucy slides off, they are greeted by a palace guard. Â âAh, Natsu, youâve returned. Â King Igneel will be happy to see you.â Turning to Lucy who is nervously glued to his side, âand youâve brought a guest,â the man grins, âWell, come in, you know where to find the King Iâm sure,â and walks away. Â
âN-natsu?â Lucy makes her way to the creatureâs front, âYour name is Natsu?â Â It blows out a puff of air. Â She smiles, âAt least I have a name to call you now.â
The young woman follows Natsu through the palace, simply amazed at the grand edifice.  Having grown up in a small village, such a large and stately place like this was worlds apart from what she knew.  But she was still curious about why they were here, was this dragon like a royal pet or something?  Palace staff greet the dragon when they pass by, even bowing to it like you would a royal guest and when they see her, many grin.  âWhy are they looking at me like that?â she wondersâŠ
âAh! Â Natsu where have you been?â the king hugs the dragon. Â âAnd who is this?â smiling at Lucy, âI have to say itâs a shock that Natsu brought a girl home.â
The young blonde blushes, âMy name is Lucy, I sort of stumbled onto him when his wing was injured.â
The king frowns and shakes his head at the dragon who lowers its gaze, âDid you help him?â
âYes,â she responds, âit took a lot out of me, but his wing is all healed.â
âWell, then,â King Igneel shakes her hand, âI am in your debt. Â I donât know what I would do if something happened to Natsu.â Â The dragon snorts, or huffs as if itâs annoyed. Â
âF-forgive me for asking but, how is it that a dragon lives in the palace? Â Heâs not some pet or anything because that would be wrong.â
King Igneel bellows with laughter, âNo, no my dear,â heâs laughing so hard, his eyes are watery, âNatsu is just very special to me.â
âButâŠâ
âCome,â the king grins and gestures for them to follow, âlet me show you to a suite miss Lucy, you are welcomed to stay as long as you wish since Natsu seems to have taken a liking to youâŠâ
The suite that King Igneel takes her to makes her heart jump, itâs bigger than her house back home! Â âAre you serious? Â I get to live, here?â she turns back to the King. Â âBut this is huge!â
The man laughs, âWell on one condition.â
âWhatâs that?â
âTechnically, this is Natsuâs room, youâll be sharing it with him.â
Lucy looks over to the dragon who has settled down near the bed and smiles. Â âI donât mind having Natsu for a roommate.â Â
âThen itâs settled. Â If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Â You are welcomed to anything here. Â Servants will notify you before meals. Â If you need to purchase anything just ask.â He looks at her bag, âand I have a feeling you will,â he taps his chin, âin fact I will send someone to take you shopping later.â He smiles and grins at the dragon, âIâm sure Natsu will like it when your dressed like a lady of this court.â Â The dragon snorts and turns its head away. Â Lucy blinks, if Natsu were human, sheâd swear he was blushing right now.
âYouâre too kind,â she bows to the king, âI donât want to be a burden.â
âNonsense,â he waves his hand, âYour healing skills will be a great addition to the palace staff as well.â Â
Once the king has left, Lucy takes in the expansive room for herself. Â It holds such beautiful furnishings, a large 4 poster bed, dripping with luxurious sheer draperies in reds and golds and the royal seal emblazoned on itâs headboard. Â Matching nightstands, armoires, dressers, a gilded mirror, everything and more that youâd expect in a palace bedroom. Â
There is an adjoining bath, and a walk-in closet half filled with menâs clothing and accessories.  âI wonder whose clothes these areâŠâ she ponders as she brushes her fingers against them.  Some every day wear but many are fit for a king, âor prince?â  And even more curious to her, the other half of the closet is empty as if they knew she was coming.  Lucy shakes her head, impossible, this is probably just an extra room they could let the dragon use while here since it was big enough. Â
As her exploration of the room progresses, the young girls stomach begins to grumble reminding her she hadnât eaten breakfast and it was almost lunch time. Â Natsu, who had been watching her the whole time, perks up and walks over to her, nudging at her side. Â
âYeah, I am getting hungry again.â Lucy smiles at Natsu, who starts pushing her towards the door.  âWhat are you doing?  The king said a servant will be by to announce lunch, I can waitâŠâ  But that doesnât deter the dragon who continues to push.  Lucy plants her feet, âNatsu, stop it.  I-I donât want to inconvenienceâŠ.â Finally, the dragon blows out a puff of air and picks her up with its tail, and places her on its back.Â
âNatsu,â she tries to slide off, but the tail holds her down, âThis is embarrassing...â Â Sure, it had been fun while they were flying and no one was really looking, but riding on the back of dragon, it was quite un-lady like. Â Ignoring her pleas, Natsu saunters out of the room and heads to, she assumes the kitchen. Â Down hallways and corridors, passing room after room. Â Each time they encounter a staff member Lucy hides her face. Â The young woman doesnât know anyone yet and doesnât want to be looked upon as strange. Â
Eventually, the smells of food cooking reach her nose and she canât help but salivate from whatever delicious aromas were beyond the doorway.  Natsu stops and lays down to make it easier for Lucy to slide off, then points with its snout to the door.  âGo in there?â she asks.  He pushes her gently with his snout.  âO-okayâŠâ
With a little hesitation, Lucy walks into the bustling kitchen with Natsu now taking up the doorframe.  âHello?â she calls out, âI-I was wonderingâŠâ
âOh Hello!â a pretty young woman with white hair peeks her head out of a pantry door. Â âYou must be Lady Lucy, are you hungry?â Â She walks out with a few loaves of bread in her arms.
âIâm sorry to bother you, but I guess my stomach doesnât want to wait for lunch.â
âItâs no bother,â the woman puts her loaves on a counter. Â âMy name is Mira,â She smiles, âand my kitchen is always open.â Â
âThank you, Mira. Â Um, how did you know who I was?â
âOh,â she waves her hand and chuckles, âWord spreads quickly here, especially since it was Natsu who brought you.â Â Mira looks over to the dragon. Â âAre you hungry too?â Â The dragon nods. Â âHeâs always hungry,â she whispers to Lucy, âIâll whip you up something, Natsu be a dear and take Lucy to the smaller dining room.â
âI can help you MiraâŠâ
âNo, no,â she guides the blonde back to the door, âjust follow Natsu, it wonât take me long.â
âThank you again, Mira.â
âYou are very welcome.â
After lunch, the King sent her with his seamstress, tailor, and a couple others with instructions that Lucy be given a full makeover, fit for life as a courtier. Â Armfuls of dresses so lavish the young woman couldnât believe they were considered simple day wear, shoes, undergarments, anything a young lady would need; and this was just to get her started. Â The seamstress and tailor took her measurements for more custom attire. Â A jeweler furnished beautiful earrings, necklaces, rings, and bracelets, to match the clothing. Â And finally, her hair was revitalized, done up, make up applied and Lucy simply didnât look like the same girl anymore. Â
âWow!â she shifted from side to side in the mirror, âIs that really me?â
âTch,â Aquarius the seamstress snickers, âWho else would it be? Â Just be grateful to King Igneel.â
âOh, I am,â Lucy beams, âBut thank you all, Mr. Capricorn, Mr. Cancer, and most of all Ms. Aquarius! Â I feel like Iâm in a fairytale!â
Capricorn, âLady Lucy, I will escort you back to the palace while they finish up here. Â Everything will be delivered to your room by dinner.â
âOkay,â she follows the tall, stately gentleman out, âThanks again!â she waves at the other two.
But when they reach the palace, Lucy sees a quaint garden and asks to wander through, so Capricorn nods and heads back to the seamstress.  Such a peaceful area, with pathways, and statues, small streams and bridges, benches scattered around, even a couple gazeboâs.  âMaybe one evening Iâll come out here to star gazeâŠâ
Lucy didnât realize that the garden was just below her room, and when Natsu caught wind of her scent he looked over the balcony, watching her meander along the paths. Â She was almost back where she started when a palace guard stepped out from under a tree. Â âHello gorgeous.â Â The orange-haired man saunters up, âYour loveliness fits in well to such a picturesque scene,â and kisses her hand.
âOh, brotherâ, she rolls her eyes, âAnd you are?â
âLeo,â he bows, âat your service anytime, day or night,â he winks. Â
âWell Mr. Leo it was nice meeting you, but I should go.â
âWhatâs the rush,â Leo closes the gap between them, until she can literally feel his breath against her skin.  Tipping her head up, âDo youâŠâ
A whoosh of air and a thud startles them as Natsu lands at her side and physically pushes the man back. Â The dragon growls low, protective over the girl. Â âNatsu!â Lucy clings to his neck happy to be saved from the pervert. Â
âHey!â Leo puts his hands up in defense, âSorry I didnât know she meant that much to you Natsu.â Â He backs away, âWonât bother her again, I promise.â Â Natsu snorts at the back-peddling guard. Â
âIâm so glad youâre here!â Lucy snuggles her face into Natsuâs neck and he nuzzles her back. Â âSo,â she steps back and twirls for him, âHow do I look?â Natsu nuzzles her face again. Â She giggles, âI take that as you like it?â Â he snorts. Â âYeah me too.â
True to his word, everything they had purchased that day was stocked in her closet by dinner and two servants named Aries and Virgo were assigned to her. Â âMy goodness, this is all too much!â Lucy whines as they dress and get her ready for dinner. Â âIâm not a Princess, why is the King being so kind to me? Â I-Iâm really no more special than any other staff member.â Â Her eyes widen, âHe doesnât fancy me, does he?!â
âNo miss,â Aries assures her, âThe King has his Queen and you will meet Grandeeney tonight.â
Lucy exhales, âThatâs a relief. Â But then why is he doing all of this?â
Virgo, âNatsu isâŠâ she looks at Aries for a second as confirming her words before turning back to Lucy, âspecial to the king and since Natsu brought you here, that makes you special too.â
The healer scans over to the dragon who has suspiciously turned its head away, as if to avoid looking at her, âWhat does that even mean?â
Aries, âIâm sorry miss but we cannot say, perhaps you should ask the King.â Â
âYeah,â Lucy swears she hears Natsu sigh, âI think I willâŠâ
After a private dinner with the King, Queen, and their daughter, Princess Wendy, Lucy requests to speak with the two royals alone. Â Natsu, who had curled up near her chair looks up when they lead her to an adjoining parlor. Â The royals sit on one couch and Lucy is gestured to another facing it. Â
She starts off by thanking them for all their hospitality but, âI mean no disrespect by this, but I donât understand why I am being treated so well. Â I am a commoner, no noblewoman or royal, and yet to be dressed like a courtier, be given servants, itâs all too much.â
The King laughs, âIâve never seen someone complain about being pampered before.â
Lucy flushes, âIâm sorry, I-I didnât mean for it to sound that way,â bowing her head, âeveryone has been so kind to me and I really havenât done anything to deserve such special treatment.â
âOn the contrary my dear,â Grandeeney responds, âNatsu feels you are special and therefore so do we.â
âBut, still, I donât want to be a burden, I-Iâve only known how to work to survive, not be catered to.â Exhale, âThis lifestyle is very different than what I am used to.â
King Igneel, âI told you earlier, we will call upon you if your healing abilities are needed, besides, keeping Natsu company, and if you can keep him from wandering away from here, that would be a blessing.â
âYes,â Grandeeney adds, âWe always worry when he goes off on his own. Â He may be a dragon, but he is young and reckless, often getting into mischief.â
âI guess I can do that. Â May I ask, how long have you known Natsu?â
âSince he was born, oh, 22 years now.â
Lucy giggles, âHeâs only a year older than me!â Â Â
âSpeaking of which,â Grandeeney looks over to the door, âI believe we should finish this conversation before he gets any more anxious from your absence.â
The young woman follows the Queens eyes and sees the tip of a snout peeking past the doors frame. Â She chuckles, âNatsu? Â We can see you.â Â He sticks his head around the frame now. Â Lucy waves him over and he quickly bounds in, excited. Â She stands up and walks over to him, hugging his neck, âAwe did you miss me?â he nuzzles her back.
King Igneel smiles at his wife before turning his attentions to the pair. Â âHeâs never warmed up to a stranger so quickly, Lucy you truly have an effect on him.â
âAll I did was heal a wound,â she smooths the skin around his muzzle and snout, âHeâs the one whose taken care of me ever since.â Â Smiling, she leans her cheek against his and closes her eyes for a moment. Â
âIt had drained a lot more of my energy than I had expected to fix his wing, so I passed out. Â Natsu took me to a cave and watched over me until I woke up. Â He caught a rabbit so that I could eat, kept me warm until morning, and now,â she opens her eyes again, âbrought me here to you, wonderful people. Â It is I, that is in his debt.â
Grandeeney, âWill you tell us a little more about yourself Lucy, why were you out in the woods alone?â
She sighs, âI was running away from my village.â Â Giving one more caress to Natsuâs face, she goes back and sits on the couch while he lies down and waits. Â âMy father wanted me to marry a man to further his own agenda and I refused, but I could only fight back for so long, so, I ran a week ago.â looking over at the attentive dragon, âAnd thatâs when I came across Natsu. Â I have no idea how he got his injury, but it was bad enough that he wouldnât be able to fly.â Â
Grandeeney shoots the dragon a look that makes him turn away, like a child getting scolded by a parent. Â âI worry that my father will find me and try to make me go home.â
âThat wonât happen.â King Igneel declares in no uncertain terms, âas long as you are here, you are under our protection.â
âThank you.â Lucy smiles
âNo, thank you Lucy,â Grandeeney, âfor bringing Natsu home to usâŠâ
Aries and Virgo help Lucy out of the binding formal dress so she can take a bath before bed. Â Virgo even scolds Natsu, warning him that he better not peek. Â He huffs and turns away. Â Lucy finds the exchange odd, I mean he is a dragon not a man, but she puts it out of her mind.
It had been a long day for her, and when she hits the soft bedding, her eyes drift shut ready for sleep to take her away, and yet it doesnât. Â She opens her eyes, letting them fall on the dragon curled up beside the bed, remembering the peaceful slumber she had the night before. Â
Lucy grabs a pillow and comforter and snuggles herself against his warm body, âGood Night NatsuâŠâ
~~~xx~~~
Itâs been almost a full year since Natsu had brought Lucy to Kelekona but to her, it was like a lifetime ago. Â She had met so many people and made so many friends not only in the palace but in the city that time had simply flown by unnoticed. Â Some of the closest was a girl named Levy who loved reading about as much as Lucy did, Gray, Erza, Cana, Yukino; just too many to name. Â
But nothing topped the close bond that she and Natsu had developed. Â From the moment they met, the pair was inseparable, and the only times he left the city walls, was if Lucy was with him. Â She loved it when he took her flying, especially at night, and sometimes heâd land on a high mountain peak, so she could stargaze.
Even when it came to bedtime, Lucy rarely slept on the bed, opting to cuddle against her dragon instead. Â Something about him made her feel relaxed, safe, and dare she say it, loved. Â Anytime they were around other people, he was very protective, especially when it came to males. Â Leo had only been the first to witness such a display of territorialism, but he wasnât the last, and a few didnât walk away unscathed. Â
She didnât always like it when he acted aggressively, and sheâd end up using her healing abilities to make sure there was no lasting damage, but at the same time, it made her heart flutter, like the knight protecting his beloved. Â Her life was so blissful, the reason that triggered this adventure had already become a distant memory.
Until the message came. Â
Natsu was out getting food again while Lucy relaxed in their room with a book when a servant brought her a letter addressed to her but with no sender. Â Curious, she opens it and immediately the tears burst forth, her father was demanding she come home or he will send mercenaries to kidnap her the moment she leaves the palace grounds.
The letter flutters from her hand to the ground as she covers her face, sobbing hysterically. Â How could he be so cruel? Â Would he really send thugs to kidnap her? Â Every fiber of her being screamed yes, so what should she do? Â Should she tell the King? Â
Just then Natsu comes running in, did he hear her cries, did he smell her tears? Â Lucy flings herself on him, hugging to his neck. Â Oh, how she wished he could talk! Â But thatâs okay, she was doing plenty of her own, broken and muffled through her sobs, but the emotions poured out like a broken fountain. Â
âHe says heâll have me kidnapped, I-I canât go back, I just canât!  But what do I do, I canât hide forever.â Her grip around Natsu tightens, âand I donât want to be separated from youâŠâ  He nuzzles her back.  âGod, I wish you could talk, I wish you could tell me itâll be alright.  I know if Iâm with you Iâll be safe but just to hear itâŠâ Lucy slumps to her knees.  ââŠwould make me feel better.â Â
The dragon paces for a few minutes as if itâs contemplating what to do. Â She doesnât know it but Natsu understands everything and itâs killing him that he canât pull her tight and tell her what she wants to hear. Â He wants to soothe her pain.
âNatsu?â  the dragon stops and walks back to her.  âIf something happens,â she caresses his cheek, âand they do take me awayâŠâ he struggles, agitated by just the thought of men taking her from him.  âNatsu,â she cups his snout, âstop.â  Putting on a forced smile, âyou made me so happy, that no matter what, I will always love you.â
Lucy kisses his nose and seals their fates forever.
A soft iridescent glow covers the dragon, envelopes his whole body in a serene aura. Â Concerned, she reaches out to touch him, âN-Natsu?â Â When her finger tips make contact with his skin, a jolt of energy surges through the blonde and she pulls back in shock, not from pain, she felt no malice, only the opposite; the emotion she felt in that rush was love, pure, and unending. Â
Right before her eyes, the dragonâs body transforms, shrinking, elongating, changing.  The form of a human male begins to take shape, curled slightly on the ground, taller than she, muscular, lightly tanned smooth skin, pink spiky hair on his head and a few on his body⊠ Lucy is mesmerized and a little mortified at the naked guy lying at her feet.  She blushes and grabs the comforter off the bed, covering the manâs lower half.
As the transformation completes itself, the glow also subsides, âN-Natsu?â her voice trembling a little, she kneels and reaches out to his shoulder, âN-Natsu?â
âLuâŠcyâŠâ a weakened voice, barely a whisper comes out of him. Â
âNatsu, is that you?â When he opens his eyes, she is greeted with the emerald jewels sheâs come to know well. Â âNatsu, that is you! Â T-this is you!â Â Throwing off her concerns she hugs him to her chest. Â âNatsu!!â she cries, but tears of joy, âOh my goodness!â
âLucyâŠâ he hugs her back, snuggling his face against her neck.  âPlease donât cry for me.â
âBut Iâm happy!â she tightens her embrace, âI canât help it,â sniffling, âBut, what the hell is going on?!â
He releases her and sits up, running his hand through his hair, âWell,â he grins, âSurprise?â
âDonât surprise me mister, how did you go from a dragon to this?â she waves her hand at him. Â âAlthough now things are making more sense to me, this really is your room, the clothes in the closet are your clothes.â Â He nods.
âTwo years ago, a wizard cursed me because I played a practical joke on him.  I thought it was funny as hell, and at first being a dragon was cool but, then it got lonely.â  Lucy sits down as he continues.  âI couldnât talk to anybody, people were afraid of me⊠ eventually I started to stay away for longer and longerâŠâ
âIn that cave?â
He nods, âBy the time you found me I didnât care if I died, I just wanted to stop being so alone.  But then you werenât afraid, you helped me despite what I wasâŠâ tears form in the corners of his eyes, âfor the first time in those two years, I didnât feel alone anymore.â
âOh Natsu,â tears threaten to spill again. Â She hugs him, âBut why did you change back now?â
âWe can answer that.â Â The couple turns to the door way and see the King and Queen. Â Igneel smiles, âthe only way to break the curse was for Natsu to find love.â Â
âTrue Love,â beams Grandeeney. Â âThe only magic more powerful than any curse.â
Natsu turns Lucyâs chin towards him, âI guess when you said you loved me, that broke the spell.â
âS-So, you really are a Prince?â she looks at him, then to the royals as they all nod. Â
Grandeeney smiles at her as Igneel squeezes her waist, âIâm sorry we couldnât tell you the truth my dear, but we had to let things happen on their own and hope for the best.â
âNo wonder everyone always smiled or grinned at me,â she turns back to Natsu, âyou all were hoping this would happen?â
Natsuâs eyes soften, âI fell in love with you since that cave Luce, and yes, I hoped that one day, you would feel the same way about me despite the form I held.â
Her eyes soften too, âI guess we both saved each other that day, huh?â caressing his cheek. Â
âOh, Iâm not done yet.â The light in his eyes flash, âDad, Lucyâs father is threatening to kidnap her.â
âHe what!â Igneel bellows, âWhat fool dares to threaten someone in my court?!â Â
Lucy had almost forgotten about the message, âH-he sent a letter saying heâd have me kidnapped and will force me into an arranged marriage.â
Igneel begins to shout again, âI will sendâŠâ
But Natsu waves his hand, âThatâs not necessary dad, I have a better idea.â Â Everyone looks at him confused as he turns to Lucy and takes her left hand. Â âMarry me Lucy, be my Princess, my wife, my future queen and your father will have no choice to back off or it will be treason; surely he is not that big of a fool?â
Lucy blinks, âMe, a-a Princess?â
He grins, âDonât forget future queen, I am the heir to the throne.â
âAnd Iâd like to retire someday.â Igneel throws in taking a jab to his side by his wife.  âWhat?  Just sayingâŠâ he laughs.
âThen yes.â
âYes?â
âYes!â Lucy kisses Natsu on the lips, âI love you.â
Leaning his forehead to hers, âI love you too.â
Igneel clears his throat, âNow that, that is settled Iâll be sending a letter to your father informing him of your engagement to the Prince and that if he dares to get in the way he will be thrown in the dungeon. Â As for you two, congratulations, and please son, put some clothes on.â Â Lucyâs face grows crimson.
Natsu looks down, and laughs, âI forgot I was naked.â
âWeâll let everyone know youâre back,â his mom smiles, âHow about a ball in your honor?  Ooh, an engagement ball!â Igneel starts to lead her away shaking his head but with a smile on his face, âIâm going to get Mira on that right awayâŠâ
âIâll leave you alone, so you can change,â Lucy stands up to walk away, but he grabs her hand and yanks her into his lap.  âNatsu what are youâŠâ
âAfter a year I finally get to hold you in my arms Luce, so youâre not going anywhere just yet.â
âMmm,â she kisses him, âThatâs fine with meâŠâ
A princess is cursed to never be able to sleep at all. But when she finds the love of her life and kisses them she will pass out and be asleep for however many days/nights of sleep sheâs missed. Like she can wake up on her own at some point but like she canât wake up until sheâs made up for all of the days she didnât sleep.
