Mature-ish thoughts and headcanons for the Return AU:
Sam offers everyone the chance to try beer some weeks after they've moved into the Safe House, as a way of introducing them to the relative freedom of adulthood. Everyone takes a sip at once... and promptly spits it out, expressing varying degrees of disgust and horror. Marie in particular grabs the garden hose and rinses out her mouth with it.
Only a handful of toys have any tolerance for alcohol whatsoever, once they've had a chance to try more beginner-friendly stuff. Kissy likes the stuff that's more dessert than cocktail, like a frozen margarita or a daquiri, but she will ask for it to be cut with the virgin equivalent if she thinks it'll be too boozey (it's very hard to walk when you're tipsy and have noodle limbs). Doey winds up developing the highest tolerance for the taste of alcohol, if only because he can't seem to get even properly tipsy no matter how much he drinks, thanks to his sheer mass. He still strongly prefers things that don't taste like straight diesel, though; Bailey's Irish Cream drinks tend to be a fave. Giblet pretends to be a drinker in an effort to make himself seem more like an adult, but he'll only pour half a dash of whiskey in his coke. Still more than Chum would put up with; the poor guy got his mouth sprayed with sanitizer on multiple occasions, and hates the taste.
Sam had a "quincenera and a half" party when she turned 15.5, since both her aunt Ines and her dad's girlfriend Natalie each only had sons, and they really wanted to hold a coming of age party for the girl. This is mainly relevant in that Marie finds her old ballgown from that party in one of the manor's closets, and tries it on. The subsequent wave of dysphoria (seeing a version of herself that doesn't just look like some shapes and lines but a woman - a real woman in her mind's eye) is enough to render her borderline catatonic for an hour before Sam manages to snap her out of it.
If we go with the idea that the Prototype is still alive at the end of this AU, I like the idea that he goes on a soul search rather than staying with the toys in their new home. "You've been given eternity, and yet you've decided you won't do a thing with it. What's the point in living forever if you're just going to bury yourself alive?" "You're the sneakiest giant I've ever met, and it's not like you need to stick around human settlements if you don't want to. When's the last time you've seen the beach? Never? Why not start with that?" (Maybe Poppy joins him, maybe she doesn't.)
Sam does slowly introduce the toys to her circle of friends over time, both as a way of helping them get a better sense of what people are like outside of traumatized orphans and evil corporate slaves, and to ensure someone will be able to care for them if she's ever taken out of commission. Her buddy Daniel (from high school; she befriended the local computer nerds when beginning her search for answers, and they kept contact) is the first, because she needed his party bus service to transport the toys to their new home. While he was initially confused and horrified by the highly abridged story Sam gave him, he wound up forming a brotherly sort of bond with many of the toys during the hours-long drive between the factory and the manor. Turns out, introducing the bunch to new music that isn't Playtime ad sludge is a great way to break the ice. A week or so in, they got an unexpected visit from Roger, Charlotte, and their 18 month old baby, Sophie; family friends of Natalie's who had not been informed that their potential wedding venue had become occupied. Much to Sam and the toys' surprise, the couple were very understanding of the situation, in part because Roger himself had some supernatural shenanigans involved in his life. Some time later, they'd allow the toys to babysit Sophie on occasion (they freaking love the kid; it's like all the nice parts of Playcare without the psychological torture and manipulation). Sam also brings along several of her punk friends, to teach the toys about counterculture and all the other stuff Playtime wouldn't teach them. It's her goth buddy Lucia that introduces some of the toys to makeup as an art form rather than something mommies do to look pretty.
(I'll draw the bunch later, I think.) (This AU is a crossover of a bunch of different things, BTW. Like, a lot of indie horror games in the past decade or so, including some passing references to FNAF (though the plot of the games didn't happen due to shenanigans from other characters, so the Afton kids are just normal fucked up instead of supernaturally fucked up), Bendy and The Ink Machine (the big one, really, because Natalie is Nathan Arch's granddaughter and Roger is an Ink Demon fanchild; context will come eventually), Hello Puppets, Slender (mostly as a reference, though; Lucia's boyfriend and his family are based on those corny fandom versions of Slendy and his "siblings"), etc.) (But not Hello Neighbor. There's no story to cross over with, really.)
Theodore either would have a ridiculously high tolerance to weed or none at all. Maybe it's that he doesn't feel it at all until he takes too much and gets a bad high. He's not really cut out for drugs, I don't think. Marie also wouldn't cope well with weed. Giblet might like it, though. I can imagine him being a casual smoker.
