Very few children need to be taught how to rest. They stop when they are tired. It comes naturally. As we grow up, many of us absorb a different message. Our value becomes tied to what we achieve. A full calendar starts to feel like a successful life and being busy becomes something to be proud of.
Rest gradually turns into something that has to be earned. It becomes what you allow yourself after the work is finished, the house is in order or everyone else's needs have been met. For many people, that moment never arrives.
The guilt that shows up when you slow down isn't a flaw in your character. It's a belief you learned somewhere along the way. Recognising that belief isn't an excuse to avoid responsibility. It's an invitation to question whether you've been carrying a rule that was never meant to define your life.
