An embroidered Victorian photograph from the final costume of my undergraduate degree.
My character had lost her child, and was undergoing the rest cure as a ‘treatment’ for her grief. This is a representation of how she saw her daughter, and had become integral to her mental state and perception of herself.
Embroidering onto such thick card is a challenging, as any puncture mark made with a needle is permenant, and it is too opaque to be able to bring your needle through from the back in the correct place. I developed a ‘connect-the-dots’ system to ensure I did not ruin the photograph.
