It took all Abby had just to bite her tongue during that briefing. She had to remind herself that this wasn't General Leia's fault; Leia hadn't been the one to decree that Abby either joined the Jedi, or gave up the Force entirely. She also wasn't the one to call for the total annihilation of her own son; that fell on her terrified colleagues, who feared that Luke Skywalker would never be found, or was dead, or was simply too old to stand up to Kylo Ren's growing power.
Which meant that the next logical step was to turn to Abby. They all knew she hadn't truly given up her power, for she never could. It was, literally and figuratively, engrained in her heart, and her skills with a lightsaber came just as naturally. In another world, she would've been proud of those skills, but during that briefing, she'd come dangerously close to spitting out, "I know I'm a shitty pilot, but couldn't you guys figure out something for me to be other than a weapon?"
Of course she hadn't said that. She'd nodded and smiled and accepted her new directive with thanks, like it was an honor that they were using her the same way Snoke had planned to use her. Now, she was expected to start training again, and take time away from her expeditions with Poe in order to ensure she was well-prepared for a battle against Kylo Ren, but she had the whole day to prepare herself for that change. So Abby returned to the landing platform where her x-wing sat, with the rest of her squadron as always, and got down under it to continue repairs as if she hadn't been called into the command center at all.
Crimes McGhee, for their part, chirped at the sight of her back in her spot, drawing all the attention she didn't want onto her return. Sighing and grumbling, Abby glanced up to see where Poe was -- he was the only person she felt like talking to right now. At least Crimes McGhee caused no real chaos, and rolled over to help with repairs on her ship.
