Percy’s sense of humor has definitely worn off on her over the years. They’ve been a part of each other’s lives for so long, it’s nearly impossible to ignore, and in difficult times, Annabeth is weirdly grateful for it, and for him. It’s what has her sticking her foot out to poke him  in the leg while they’re supposed to be studying. 

He  dismissed  the  pair  of  telekhines  standing  guard  with  a  wave  of  his  hand ,  and  rushed  to  Rapunzel’s  corner ,  sweeping  her  into  his  embrace .   ❝   I  can’t  believe  you’re  here .   ❞   Of  course ,  she  hadn’t  come  by  choice ,  but  he’d  been  burdened  by  the  fear  he  would  never  see  her  again  long  before  now .  He  peeled  back  to  study  her ,  cupping  her  cheek  with  his  palm .   ❝   Are  you  okay ?  Are  you  hurt ?   ❞

         ❝ 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚? 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬- ❞there’s an attempt to laugh, but it doesn’t land: starts and dries up on her tongue before it can ever leave her mouth. there’s a horrible sadness in her stomach, and mixed with everything she’s had to drink it doesn’t feel right. 

❝ honestly? sometimes... I know that might sound crazy but... I was alone a lot. mostly observing things. didn’t really have a lot of friends. and now... ❞ she thinks of janice and damien, and something, she doesn’t know what, doesn’t feel right. but the alcohol makes her brain fuzzy and aaron’s eyes are so dreamy that it fades before she can figure it out. ❝ I have more friends. and shoes... ❞ 

         “ I’ve gotta ask... there’s no bad blood between us, right? I mean, I know neither of us really made an effort to... CONNECT, like before... ” The ground’s a lot easier to stare down than Bess’ cherubic face ––– those big blue eyes just have a way of worming into you, even when she doesn’t mean for them to. “ But I’m sorry I didn’t, for what it’s worth. A part of me was scared it’d be weird if we couldn’t be friends in person too. I know. DUMB, right? ”
