I think this might be the last representational drawing I've done. It is a self portrait. I must have drawn it circa 2014 because I had a full beard at the time. I hadn't drawn from life in a long time before this. It's not the best drawing in technical terms. But, I think it's a pretty good drawing. There are some things I would change in the eye area. Overall though, I think it works. I would consider this a relatively successful representational drawing. All that said, this kind of work feels like a regression to me. I don't foresee myself getting into representational work as a form of artistic expression. It's just not part of my creative lexicon anymore. But, I do think it's an important thing to be able to do as an artist. At least initially. I also appreciate other artist who make representational work when they choose interesting subject matter and approach those subjects with creativity and originality.
