How do you image Ben and Audrey's relationship pre-Descendants (i.e. Mal)?
i was so taken aback by this spontaneous anonymous question that i felt compelled to answer it. this gets kind of long. i am so sorry.
how do i compile my thoughts…
note: this is probably obvious, but the internet scares me so i’m going to say it anyway: this is going to require me to make some generalizations and assumptions concerning ben’s character. i do not write him, never have never will, but i have written with a nice handful of lovely iterations enough to glean a bit about him. i also have watched each film at least four times so like... if i don’t know, there’s no hope for me.
to start: despite drawing some inspiration from audrey’s portrayal in the first novel and definitely the first film, i generally like to ignore the school of thought that says their relationship was 1. shallow with no basis in anything, and/or 2. built on some desire of audrey’s to gain a social leg up. and by like i mean love. i love to ignore it. anyone who says either of those two things may kindy bite me (◡‿◡✿).
you’re a total d-hole . (from chad)
‘ OUCH , my fragile little feelings , ’ she mocks , steely grays rolling skyward. honestly ?? she’s not exactly sure what he’s pissed about this time , a new conflict seemingly arises every other day or so. and if it’s about that bad dye job she’d bestowed upon that blonde bimbo he’d been oogling that was HIS FAULT not hers. take a good long look in the mirror chad , maybe the d-hole is y o u.
‘ Personally , I think I did her a favor. the baby-puke-green matches her personality , which makes me want to vomit. ’ chin moves to dock upon alabaster digits , long lashes bat as she practically radiates smugness. ‘ Maybe you should spread the world to all your little groupies , obviously they can’t take a hint and back off. ’

Chad isn't really dealing with it. Well, unless you count drinking yourself to stupor as dealing with it. Everyone is trying to reach out to him, to comfort him. But he pulls away from everyone who attempts to bridge the chasm he has created. He won't speak to Elle or Kit, or Jane. He won't voice a word to Ben. Not even Jay, can reach into the depths of his sorrow and pain to revive him. He has lost half of his soul, his being, and only Zara knows how that could possible feel.
rest in pieces @repoussewrit @zephyrwrit :’’’)
