Dental Implants and their Types
Dental implants are considered as the superior solution or treatment for tooth replacement. These are stable artificial fixtures or roots made of Titanium metal fused into the jawbone to replace the root of the infected or lost natural tooth. It acts as a support system to hold the artificial replacement tooth.
Dental implants are done when you lose your teeth due to cavities, gum diseases, accidents, fractured roots, etc. The aim of doing dental implants is to restore your dental functions and oral health and to improve your appearance.
There are three types of dental implants.
These dental implants are shaped in the form of little screws that are placed in the jawbone. These are the safest and most commonly used implant. These are suitable for all patients having a good and healthy jawbone. It takes time to heal, fit into and to make a stronghold and thereafter the artificial teeth are fitted into the jaw using this.
2) Subperiosteal Implants:
These dental implants are an alternative to the endosteal implants and are fused on the top of the jawbone but are still under the gum. The metal frame with an attached post is placed under the gum to create a stronghold in the place thereafter its healing to fit the artificial teeth to it. This implant is suitable for patients who don't have a better enough and healthy jawbone and who don't want to do an in-depth oral surgery to add bone to the place.
These implants are the rarely used and the most complex type. It is placed on the cheekbone instead of the jawbone. It is done only if you don’t have enough jawbone for doing the Endosteal implant.
The dental implants are preferable for the patients having healthy gums and sufficient bone to assist and hold the implant. With proper oral care and frequent dental checkups, implants can last a lifetime.
