DIY Strap Replacement: YSL Cabas Chyc Mini

Let me start by saying I’m in love with this bag. The sheepskin leather smells SO good and very soft. I can’t stop myself from running my hands on it. The bag’s very light, great for everyday use, and chic (true to its name). And the bag fits quite a lot.

The 17" (43cm) drop of the strap is the perfect length if I use it as a shoulder bag. However, and I don’t even consider myself as tall standing at ONLY 5'3" (162cm), I can’t use it as a crossbody bag. It stops at an uncomfortable place immediately under my chest that limits me to using it exclusively as a shoulder bag.

As a modern working woman, I need to not fuss about  my bag slipping from my shoulder or adjusting it multiple times every few minutes in the train. It’s one less stress I need to eliminate in my overly crowded 90-minute commute.

Solution: I found a faux leather strap of the precise color and width and made my own 24" (60 cm) drop replacement strap. I also bought two small golden button stud gilt then put 4 holes on the strap at the spot I wanted. I can now use it as a crossbody bag while I’m inside the train or walking to my office building.

I know some people would think this is bastardazing the brand (I’ve been a HUGE fan of YSL since uni so obviously this is never my intention) and the bag, BUT I WANT TO USE THIS BAG DAILY. I want to reach for it inside my closet and make the most out of it. It’s not a cheap bag. I want my money’s worth.

I keep the original strap inside the bag’s zip pocket to use for days I don’t go to work and have the luxury of a more relaxed train ride.
