(In no particular order, just as I can think of them)
acceptance vs nonacceptance
found family/chosen family
enemies to friends/lovers/non-antagonistic 'I-know-that-guy'
stumbled into the plot
Forests for some reason
Villain-to-rival pipeline where they're still mostly violent assholes they're just on the protagonist's side now
Heart-of-gold assholes, soulful idiots, and broody killers seem to my go-tos when making characters, lol, including a sort of mix-and-match situation regarding any of those traits
