People tend to look the past to renovate the future, part of the things about learning art is that they always tell you to look for references before creating so you don’t fall for generic ideas and can see how other people solved something you are stuck with

But in the past getting references may take longer than nowadays, when before it could take money by buying magazines or renting movies, or tons of time to look for a book. We just enter to Pinterest, so this really accelerated the process but the faster we revive the trends, dies even faster, since now we consume and consume nonstop

Another factor is the money, in the Renaissance there was this prosperity that invited rich people to invest in artist. But right now art isn’t a priority in most parts of the world. Like movies, people that can’t afford to go that often will most likely to choose something from a big company that already guarantees a good time instead of “gamble” in the new big idea that they may don’t like

And companies also got less bold, they rather making another sequel of something that already guarantees people are going to watch it than thinking something new

So we have all this innovators, wanting to change the world with all the references they could want in their phone and it’s just a matter to rearrange this old ideas in a way never done before

But there’s no support

A big example of this are comics, mangas may be very popular and people adore to buy them, even some web series get their fame, but in comics people only buy DC or marvel so there’s tons of indie comics no one knows about

If I go to my library I will see a few different options of mangas, from action to romance

But in comics there’s really Marvel or DC

There’s no support, and comics aren’t a necessity so if someone is buying they will go for their fav superhero instead of a random ah book, and since libraries are still a business, they won’t print indie comics, since the market of comics fans that is willing to pay for a physical copy isn’t that big in comparison to any other book, so they won’t gamble with indie series

So what should we do? There’s all the excitement to innovate but cero opportunities! Are we really doomed? Do we really need to wait more bold stories get fame so people give indie a chance?
