(Currently thinking how it would be if Renly and Loras got to say goodbye to each other 🥺)
(idk why but having Timothee instead of Gethin aka a younger FC for Renly makes it so much sadder that he died)
RENLY’s thoughts and deeds, do not always show his true thoughts and feelings. It depends on the person he is interacting with.
Note that Renly is quite good at pretending he is nice and caring. And as a child, he truly was. The contrast between his words and thoughts depend on the other person. → To the people he truly cares about, his kindness is genuine, but then the list is quite short (such as Loras). → If he does not care and needs the person, he will be polite and he will seem caring and soft, but his thoughts would tell a different story. → Then there are people Renly will not filter his thoughts (such as Joffrey), not bothering to show he does not like them. → Finally, there are people he will pretend he is careless and a little shit, but that behaviour is a result from deeper feelings (such as with Stannis).
[sometimes I wonder if I would have liked the Baratheon brothers so much (their relationship, I mean), if Stannis had not spoke of Renly after his death. I am sucker for family relationships, but I never cared for Robert’s relationship with Renly until I read how Stannis handled Renly’s death. Then even their parley had a different meaning, the peach, how they failed to understand each other and what they never got to tell each other. “I did love him. I know that now”. “I swear I will go to my grave thinking of my brother’s peach”.*crying noises*]

(as I am writing a scene in which renly is angry he’s sad about stannis dying, I get sad when I realise that he doesn’t think that his own death would have any impact on his brother. or a long-term impact on loras either for that matter)
(writing Renly in the verse that Robert wins, is sad because he really speaks so highly of Stannis and there is no other verse that he would do that after the war was over 😭)
(Also thinking how in the verse that Robert loses the war, Stannis is sent to the Wall and Renly is a squire…Renly’s views of his brothers never change. Robert is the gallant warrior that was not really often in Renly’s life anyway. And Stannis is the brother that loves him very much and he wants Renly to be safe. Meanwhile, in all the other verses…)
