                       𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒      𝐆𝐀𝐌𝐄      𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄      𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐄   .            the  black  flame  usurps  the  dark  ,  sun  ceases  behind  shadow  ,  and  all  things  bend  to  time  .  teeth  and  bone  undo  themselves  in  the  shape  of  a  phantom  ,  a  ghost  that  only  god  has  promised  .  the  heavens  crack  open  with  a  raging  glance  ,  a  soundless  trumpet  that  snares  the  gates  themselves  as  an  echo  buries  itself  in  the  room  .         “      corpse  after  corpse     ------      𝐲𝐨𝐮  𝐝𝐨  𝐧𝐨𝐭  𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧  ,  𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧  .      ”         a  rolling  thunder  aching  in  his  gut  ,  the  pale  blue  glow  of  flame  burning  through  his  skull  so  terribly  ,  so  divinely  .  again  ,  they  stand  before  the  angels  themselves  upon  the  edge  of  the  world  ,  trilling  with  their  own  songs  of  bloodless  rebellion  as  she  dons  a  new  skin  and  he  is  made  to  watch  .  he  sees  it  ,  that  desperate  thing  that  she  treasures  the  most  ,  aching  and  pouring  from  every  bone  in  her  body  ,  dripping  onto  the  ground  before  him  .  clawed  fingers  curl  around  that  blade  heavily  ,  grip  curling  into  itself  as  he  stands  between  her  and  that  empty  body  .   he  grows  tired  of  this  puerile  fantasy  ,  of  her  quiet  obsession  with  life  .      (      𝐛𝐮𝐭  𝐢𝐧  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐞𝐧𝐝  ,  𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲  𝐠𝐨𝐝  𝐚𝐧𝐝  𝐡𝐢𝐬  𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬  𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥  𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰  .      )         “      you  have  merely  protected  an  age  of  survival  and  nothing  more  .  if  you  are  the  only  reason  this  land  persists  ,  then  it  is  doomed  .      𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴  𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦  𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭  𝘴𝘰𝘰𝘯  𝘴𝘪𝘵  𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘺  𝘪𝘯  𝘪𝘵𝘴  𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦  ,  𝘢𝘴  𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭  𝘺𝘰𝘶  .      ”         neither  threat  nor  promise  ,  his  sunken  hymn  carries  .  sacred  law  is  only  what  is  left  in  that  dreaded  voice  ,  raking  through  the  empty  room  with  a  holy  vow  .         “      submit  ,  priestess  .      ”

              𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑     𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐒     𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐋     𝐈𝐍     𝐇𝐄𝐑     𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐃𝐎𝐌   .        doves  shuddering  ,  chests  swollen  with  pride  as  they  soar  in  through  the  open  doors  .  her  walk  is  slow  ,  soft  .  full  of  feathers  ,  full  of  a  somber  delight  .  this  blood  was  all  hers  to  reap  in  the  empty  throne  room  .         “      𝘪  𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥  𝘺𝘰𝘶  𝘮𝘺  𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘺  ,    in  the  end  .     ”         dress  swaying  as  the  pillars  pass  her  by  ,  black  and  red  silks  dragging  behind  her  in  a  quiet  victory  .  she  pushes  the  corpseless  heads  aside  with  her  foot  ,  watching  red  hair  tumble  with  a  lazy  curiosity  .         “    your  people  adore  you  ,      ”         a  low  hum  ,  breath  deep  in  lilac  honey  and  sash  .  how  the  gods  shine  so  softly  on  she  ,  so  fondly  and  so  fully  .  but  she  knew  ,  she  tasted  their  gossamer  fog  and  she  did  not  need  them  in  the  beginning  ,  the  middle  ,  or  the  end  .      (      𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬  𝐰𝐚𝐬  𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬  𝐚𝐧𝐝  𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬  𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞  .      )      so  she  makes  her  way  ,  leaning  over  fallen  stone  ,  and  plucks  the  dagger  from  the  body  beneath  it  .  her  last  gift  for  the  priestess  .         “      so  smile  ,  and  come  join  me  upon  this  floor  .      ”         patiently  ,  she  pats  the  broken  pillar  beside  her  ,  the  world  still  churning  beneath  her  heel  .  soon  ,  the  rest  would  be  hers  as  well  .  those  golden  eyes  narrow  ,  serpentine  stare  enveloping  the  room  as  she  smiles  knowingly  .         “      let  me  rebraid  that  tangled  hair  of  yours  .  𝘸𝘦  𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭  𝘴𝘪𝘵  𝘢𝘴  𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯  𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦  𝘵𝘩𝘦  𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘴  𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘥  𝘰𝘶𝘵 .      ” 

                    ＨＥ＇Ｓ   ＹＥＴ   ＴＯ   ＵＮＤＥＲＳＴＡＮＤ   what  it  is  that  makes  things  sacred  .  timeless  and  irreplaceable  .  there  is  no  concept  of  such  :  only  this  ,  this  idea  of  peace  he  has  remained  in  ,  this  reality  of  decency  he  questions  all  too  little  for  his  own  good  .  only  the  now  in  which  he  exists  as  someone  standing  just  above  the  rest  .  someone  different  .  someone  special  .  for  now  ,  it  is  enough  .  as  long  as  all  else  subsides  .  she  manages  to  make  him  grin  .   “   hmph  .  no  need  to  be  so  dramatic  .   “

                    “   𝚈𝙾𝚄'𝙻𝙻   𝙲𝙾𝙼𝙴   𝙱𝙰𝙲𝙺   .   “   won’t  you  ?  the  sun  always  shines  in  the  early  morning  .  the  dew  sets  .  the  birds  chirp  .  there  is  a crisp  reality  that  never  fades  ,  but  he’s  trapped  in  these  harrowing  dreams  which  he  cannot  escape  ,  these  horrible  fantasies  he  cannot  run  from  .  she  is  so  soft  a  thing  .  too  soft  .  too  little  and  too  much  of  her  ,  just  enough  and  not  enough  to  fit  in  his  gaping  hands  .  the  sorrow  is  unbearable  ,  but  the  desire  beckons  .  this  deep  emotion  swells  in  his  belly  ,  curls  around  his  insides  and  wriggles  up  his  throat  .  she  will  always  remember  his  crocodile  tears  for  what  they  really  are  .  him  for  what  he  really  is  .   “   you  came  back  every  time  .  i  can  wait   ———   you  know  i  can  .   “   he  is  desperate  ,  holding  onto  each  small  beam  of  light  that  comes  his  way  .  she  wanes  and  he  weeps  ,  tears  himself  asunder  in  wait  .  she  comes  and  goes  in  agony  .  there  must  be  more  .   “   you’ll  never  leave  me  .   “
