Webtoon: #Killstagram
WARNING: There will be spoilers if you haven’t yet read the aforementioned webtoon, or if you already had and have yet to catch up with the raws. That aside, this will be my rant/ fangirl thoughts.
I was definitely fooled by the cute artwork- never did I think it’d escalate so quickly. In the first few chapters, shit already went down.
I felt like this webtoon’s message was about how we should use social media safely and properly- along with conveying a few crazy twists. Somehow, some events/ reveals were pretty much expected BUT honestly readers will still be thrilled. In fact, you’d keep reading.
I felt sort of bad for Remi, poor girl does not, ever, get a break. Still, it can’t be blamed because she’d never had anyone to love. The story kept going, so I didn’t have anything to complain pace wise, but I felt like the elements of the story just got lost in the story itself at one point or another. Remi doesn’t have any real friends, she say, but what about Jia?! And it wasn’t even confirmed that she was dead halfway in the story since the body was not found, only some of her belongings, but yet there was not much pursuance on it. The story could have taken a better turn by making Remi find her best friend, but I am not too sure because it might be too long. (But seriously, what was that near the epilogue, and Remi?! Why are you not asking for your bestie?)
And finally, what was, in the end, the message about social media- about public/ society? It ended it a very sad note. We got to see how lonely she was after all, despite having 10M followers. But it was left hanging there, kind of an open interpretation for all readers. There was not a solid conclusion about social media or society’s behavior toward these platforms... but I also kind of like it this way, because the author’s right: whatever happens to one person doesn’t change the world entire.
It is a good read, nevertheless, and will recommend to all thriller fans out there!
"Dentre choros e soluços
Noite adentro me consolou
Miserável pecador
Justificado e remido
Sua água e sangue me banhou
Nova criatura sou
Jubilo e gozo
Revestidos de graça e amor
Persevero com fé
Nos caminhos do verdadeiro
O grande Eu sou"
