Hi I didnt want to communicate on that post anymore cuz I thought it be more personal to send u an ask. Idk if maybe we both misinterpreted what the other was saying but I just meant that characters should be characterized completely and fully so that ppl understand them not as a social statement (unless thats the point of the work) not that noncishet characters should be ambiguous. I have no idea how I feel ur right but I DO know that not all cishet ppl r assholes or trying to suppress. srry
[Ran out of letters⌠:/] if I offended u, it wasnât my intention. I just get upset when I see support for any type of negative energy or stereotypes. Plz just instead of fighting âcishetâ fight against âclose minded ignorant asshatsâ cuz although there is A LOT of over lap, the 2 r not synonymous.
I donât think I misunderstood you at all. Unfortunately, being openly gay or bi or trans is always a social statement in our society. Thatâs the world we live in. Iâm tired of cishet people saying âweâre all human and the same! kumbaya!â after YOU politicized our identities. After YOU benefit from a system that actively erases us. We have to be political and a social statement even when we donât want to be because the society we live in assumes heterosexual cis people as the default. Anything else is always going to be perceived as a political statement. Even when we donât want it to be. So donât be disingenuous.
The problem is, because most cishet people assume everyone is straight until proven otherwise, theyâre going to assume your trans or gay character is cishet unless you go out of their way to fight their bias. If you ignore the inherent biases your audience hasâŚthen can you really be aware of the kind of impact your art is going to have? All art is created in a social, political context. To ignore that is immoral and irresponsible.
Itâs not about all cishet people being assholes, itâs about the biases you have growing up as cishet and having pretty much all the media youâve ever consumed cater to you. And not having to deal with what we have to deal with. Which is why I wrote that NON-HOSTILE, REASONABLE, REQUEST of cishet people to, if they CARE about how we feel and how their art impacts us, THINK ABOUT making it obvious when youâre representing us, to counter-act the bias cishet audiences are going to have of you work.
I wish you got as upset at all the negative energy and stereotypes Iâve received in response to that post. It has nearly 5,000 notes and many of them are from cishet people attacking me. But instead of counteracting THEIR negative energy, you decided to become one of them and police me. Iâm not going to erase cishet and replace and âclose minded asshatsâ because my statement either applies to you as a cishet person or it doesnât. And if I change my messages to make cishet people more comfortable, then what actual change will they accomplish? You sending me this messages means it applies to you, which means you are being close-minded ignorant asshat, just fyi.
