Religion and Science. Is it just me or are those two rather close to each other? Both are attempts to figure out the world. Both have their ceremonies. Both have their overzealous followers and both seem to try to control human beings.
Let me explain. All religion stem from a want to explain the world. Where did it all come from? Where did we come from? What happens after death? Big questions that cannot really be answered. According to christians, the world was created by God the almighty because he was mostly bored and wanted to have something to do. According to Buddha, there are no beginning. It’s just a thing that changes shape but has always been and will always be. The Hindu believe it is more or less a cooperation of many gods that create, and destroy, the world over and over again. And Science believes that the world came to be from a lucky fluke. It’s just something that happened for no real reason. Grotesque abbreviations, I admit, but still.
Angels of different houses put the world together, making sure that everything is working in harmony. Working with the smallest work stones to create the masterpieces that is each and everyone of us. While atoms and magnetic fields keep each other together while at the same time spinning out of control, haphazardly creating living creatures. Creatures that have mated and mutated and changed for millions of years. Or why not have the greek version, where we were made as animals but were pitied upon by the enemies of the Gods and who stole the flame of creation from the Gods to give us creativity?
Do we end up in some form of place where all our choices actually mattered for our wellbeing? Or do we simply just stop working, like some machines. Turned off forever never really having any real affect on the world anyway.
What I really feel about all this is that all religions have a problem. Their data is dated. I’d like to believe that my choices matter, and that there will be a life after death. But without any evidence to the contrary, I have a hard time seeing it. I believe the youngest religion, Science, is closest to the mark. It admits to not knowing everything and makes a point of always questioning itself in an attempt to become more accurate. While other religions just stagnate and fasten. They get locked in their old ways and old beliefs because once an idea is created it is very hard to change. And, partly, because people need something forgiving to lean towards.
Religion prophecy, they preach of how the world is. Many times, if you aren’t a part of a religion, or part of another religion. They will demean you or out you for your belief. Even outright kill you. Sadly, this is true about Science as well. They look down on the faithful for being tricked sheep or just simply stupid. Which is a shame. Science should inform, not demean.
All religion have several guidelines that you need to follow to get a good afterlife. Don’t kill, don’t eat cows, don’t be a douche. While Science has several guidelines for you to have a good life. Eat right, exercise, be in the sun and you will live long and healthy. At the same time it has contradictions, like any other good faith. Don’t be in the sun, for example, it’ll give you skin cancer. Don’t eat meat, you’ll get fat. Don’t keep to only vegetables, you need proteins as well.
I guess what I’m saying is that I adhere to the Scientific Method of things and question everything. I also believe that religions could be a good thing, for the support it gives individuals, but it’s based on outdated facts. And that everyone is wrong and nothing is right… I admit that it might not be a good standpoint, but it’s as close as I’ve gotten so far.
