When REIFY first began almost 2 years ago, I was printing direct physical representations of sound waves.

I quickly saw that these early prints weren't what I wanted. I envisioned our system doing more than just physically representing the sound I heard. I wanted it to also capture the way I felt when I heard those sounds.

These early experiments were incredible because they made clear one of REIFY's truest goals:to create a new visual language for sound, one that simultaneously represents sound and the human experience of it.

From early on, we knew that crowdsourcing of data for this visual language would be key to training our system. In order for our platform to first learn - then eventually predict - what visual and physical attributes would be right for a given sound or song...we'd need the input and opinion of many, many more people than just the REIFY team.

And over the last week we've gotten overwhelming feedback from all over the web that people everywhere are eager to help REIFY start creating that shared visual language of sound. So today we're adding a new reward for collaborators looking to join us:

The Visual Language Survey.

For a pledge of $5 you'll be signed up to participate in our visual language survey, being sent out in November. Through this interactive survey you'll tell us how you experience and visualize sound.

Your opinions, preferences and other data - along with everyone else who participates in the survey - will be entered into our system to teach it a crowdsourced view of what sound looks like.

We want EVERYONE to join our community of collaborators. We want you to have a hand in helping us create, uncover and learn what a shared human experience of sound really looks like...and together, hopefully, discover some things we didn't even know we shared.
