[  ...  ]            is  it  true     ?             has  he  become  what  he  fears  most     ?             what  does  he  even     fear     in  the  first  place     ?             fear  is  something  that  he  has  not  felt  for  years             ————————             not  a  single  ember  or  flicker  of  it  remains,             even  when  face - to - face  with  the     most  wicked    of  souls.             he  is  a  man  who  has  already  lost  everything:             his  parents,             his  sister,             his  best  friend.             what  else  is  there  to  lose     ?            he  has  no  one,             he  has  made  sure  of  such.

this  child...             is  strange.             he     wants    to  walk  away,             to  leave  before  her  words  settle     too  deeply     within  mind.             but  he  stays  against  his  better  judgement,             begins  to  think:             perhaps  it  is  emotions  he  fears,             to  love  and  hope  and  despair,             to  feel  again.             mortality  is  the  only  human  part  of  him  left,             the  rest  of  him  is  just     numb.             it  is  hard  to  feel  much  of  anything  these  days.

         there he peaks down,  being enveloped of the warmth of her small embrace.  seems he was done for the day,  visitors and worshipers alike have gone home since the sun has set.  another successful gathering,  if he does say so himself!  the gentle smile upon his face never fades,  eyes blinking a hand rests on the top of her head and to carefully grab her arm. . .  practically towering over her small frame.   ‘  you alright,  rei - chan?  ’   voice is soothing,  not quite dropping out of the understanding,  religious leader mindset.   ‘  anything on you mind?  you know you can tell me.  i have room for more confessions if need be!  ’   then he turns to crouch down to bring her in an equally light hug. . .  there’s lingering thoughts of habitual hunger.  he could,  but he won’t.

      ‘  rei - chan. . .  ’   he blinks once,  then twice.  sometimes being tall as its cons,  so he leans down to expose the blood - stained crown.   he even hums a happy little tune,  smiling wide.  in return,  a large,  clawed hand pats hers in return ;  with more fondness than intended. . .  very gentle like handling a scared kitten.

        “  stop looking at me like that,  i’m not so charitable that i’ll give you any.  ”
