🩹 Quoted from the official PlushieDreadfuls tiktok. 🩹
regression refers to a defense mechanism that individuals may unconsciously employ when faced with stress, anxiety, or trauma. It involves reverting to earlier, typically less mature, or less adapted behavior patterns characteristic of earlier stage of development.
Here are some examples of how psychological regression can interfere with a person's normal life.
• Emotional outbursts:
Under pressure, someone might have tantrums or emotional outbursts that are more typical of a child, making it different to maintain relationships
• avoidance of responsibility:
An adult facing stress at work may start avoiding responsibilities. Acting more like a junior employee, who replies heavily on others for guidance and support
• dependency:
In stressful situations an individual may become overally dependent on their partner, seeking constant reassurance and care. Similar to how a child would depend on a parent.
• neglect of self care:
Someone regressing may neglect self care activities like grooming, eating properly or maintaining their living space. Mirroring a child like dependency on others to manage these tasks
• difficulty with decision making:
they might struggle to make decisions, looking to others for guidance on minor choices as a child would seek direction from an adult
• social anxiety:
they may also develop social anxiety. Feeling overwhelmed in social situations, and unable to engage with peers on an adult level
• increased anxiety and depression:
With feelings being stuck or unable to cope with adult responsibilities, can lead to an increase of anxiety and depression. Further impetuous the cycle of regression
