Limericks are considered silly, "nonsense" poetry... Since I prefer powerful and emotionally charged poetry that leaves a lasting impression, makes people think, and connects with people limericks are not really my cup of tea. At least they weren't until my friend poet/author Regis Auffray kept asking me to review his limericks he had posted on AuthorsDen and then later asked me to help him with his limerick book that he was putting together and planning to publish with Lulu.

After that my mind about limericks was made up. Limericks became a poetry genre that I started to love and appreciate a great deal. Limericks may be considered "nonsense" poetry but there is really more to them than that. There is a bit of truth and honesty behind them because limericks are based on things a person has witnessed or experienced, based on real people that surround us every day. At least that is the kind of limericks that Regis Auffray writes.

Regis Auffray's first poetry book Born Again: The Limericks of Regis is a collection of all the limericks that he has written to-date. The limericks are not "nonsense" at all. Yes they can be silly somewhat (as is the nature of limericks) but they are based on and inspired by real people and real events. They will make you laugh, smile, and will fill you with joy. And if you are down or depressed your spirits will be lifted. You may even find yourself in the limericks that you read, not just in the poems themselves but in the titles as well. I think his book is a real treat and it is proof that limericks should not be pushed aside. This genre of poetry is just as important as "real" poetry and should be appreciated by poetry lovers.
