Defend â Iâll write a drabble of my character protecting yours.
The Dark Lord grinned as he looked around at the faces of the young death eaters, all of them so eager to please.  âMy children, you will do so well.  You will be rewarded greatly and you should take great pride in knowing that you are all going to be part of making history.  But first⌠bring out the blood traitor.â Â
Two hooded wizards brought out a boy as as he was dragged out. Â His hair was matted with blood and his face was bruised. Â They dumped the boy on the floor. Â He couldnât stand up, but he struggled to get up and managed to be on his knees. Â
Aurora stepped forward from her spot towards the back of the new death eaters. Â Aurora recognized the boy instantly, even from the back, even in the dim light. Â
âNow you will all see what happens to mudblood-loving traitors like this one,â Lord Voldemort said, wand raising to point at Reg. Â
âNO!â Aurora cried out. Â
She ran out, stepping in front of Reginald, blocking him from the Dark Wizardâs view. Â
Confusion crossed Lord Voldemortâs face and then anger. Â
âGet out of the way, you fool,â the Dark Lord said. Â
What the hell was Aurora doing. Â She was standing in front of Lord Voldemort, defending Reginald. Â She was going to die and then Reg was going to die and this will have been for nothing. Â And in that moment, Aurora found that there was something more important than survival at all cost. Â Because she wouldnât want to live if she had just stood there, hiding, doing nothing. Â
âHeâs not a blood traitor.â Aurora said quickly. Â
Think Aurora. Â How are you going to get Reg out of this? Â
âEnough. Â Get out of the way or youâll suffer the same consequence as this poor excuse for a wizard.â Â
âNo,â Aurora said. Â Her chin jutting upwards, defiantly. Â She was scared shitless. Â Greater wizards and witches than her had stood up against Lord Voldemort and they had perished. Â She was a nobody. Â But there she stood. Â She had to protect Reg. Â She had to save him. Â She had to do something. Â
âI knew you werenât one of us,â Bellatrix said with a glare from behind Voldemort, a strong Voldemort supporter long before Aurora and the others had become death eaters. Â âLet me take care of her.â Â
But Voldemort held up a hand to silence Bellatrix. Â
âVery well, Aurora. Â You had promise, but I see now youâre choosing the wrong side. Â But I can be understanding. Â Step away from the blood traitor and all will be forgiven.â Â
âIf you want to hurt him, you have to kill me first.â Â
There was one chance and it was slim. Â So Slim. Â But she had to take it. Â Â
Anger flashed on Voldemortâs face. It felt like slow motion as Aurora watched Voldemort raise up the wand that would deliver the killing spell. Â Auroraâs hand was in her pocket and it felt like she pulled out the potion vial in slow motion as well. Â Her heart was pounding so loudly in her chest and ears that she couldnât hear anything, adrenaline rushing through her body. Â She threw the potion down and the whole room filled with dark smoke. Â Aurora dove back, hitting Reg and knocking him down. Â
A flash of green. Â sliced through the black cloud, mere centimeters from where Aurora and Reg were laying. Â She got her wand out and apparated them out of there. Â
She lay atop Reg, breathing heavily, afraid to get off of him.  But the important thing was that she could feel his chest rising up and down with his breath and she could hear his heart beat against her ear.  They were still alive⌠for now.
