You Can and Should Refuse Service!
I'm telling you guys this because some of you might have a boss who WILL LIE ABOUT THIS! You can refuse service to customers if they are harassing you, being belligerent, or you know them and they make you extremely uncomfortable. Hell if the customer gets really terrible, you have the right to get them escorted out or even call the cops on them. If your boss gets mad, he can't fire you for wanting a safe work environment.
When I was going to college I worked as a waitress on odd days and would pick up any job that would be offered. (Ex: hostess at local pub, bussing tables at bars even cleaning if I needed too) Most of the jobs I took were offered by the managers and they always told me if I had a problem, kick 'em out.
I was waitressing at a local bar one weekend for some extra money, college left me with no grocery money, and I was rushing an order over to a table. I set their drinks down, spun around to leave when one of the men wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me to his lap. I wanted to slap him but I couldn't, not that I wasn't allowed but I was in shock. I managed to convince him that I had a job to do and after about 5 minutes he let me go. I told him "Now get out of the Bar or I'll call the manager over."
He said 'that wasn't going to happen because Ryan was his friend.' Let's test that theory. Ryan was making drinks so I went up to the bar told him about the man at the back table and he said "I'll go ask him to leave, if he isn't up from that table after I talk to him. Call the police."
I know it isn't always easy to quit a job that makes you feel uncomfortable, there might not be many jobs for you in a town. Just know that if someone makes unwanted advances, harasses you or threatens to hurt you. You have every right to deny service, ask them to leave or call the cops if they truly frighten you. Don't let anyone scare you into thinking you can't do anything against a customer.
