BTX licensor availability: IOCL extensions reveal tightening global technology pool
IOCL’s repeated tender extensions are highlighting a structural constraint in the aromatics sector, where BTX licensor availability is becoming increasingly limited. According to Indian Petroplus analysis, six deadline extensions without easing qualification norms indicate a constrained global supplier base.
The tender requires proven, operating-scale BTX extraction technologies, which significantly narrows participation. As a result, BTX licensor availability is effectively restricted to a small group of established global players with proprietary technologies.
This creates a trade-off between ensuring process reliability and maintaining competitive intensity. While strict criteria protect downstream performance, they also reduce bidder participation and delay project timelines. The situation suggests that BTX licensor availability is now a key determinant in project execution, influencing not just pricing but also scheduling and strategic decision-making, BTX Licensing, Aromatics Industry, Petrochemical Licensors, BTX Production, Refining Technology.
