I spent a long weekend in Scotland for the two-legged Premiership Playoff, Dundee United v St Mirren. The short explanation (because I’ve had to give the long one too many times already) is that one will be promoted to the top division, and the other relegated.
But based on the two games I saw, they both deserved to go down - the quality of play was awful, and there weren’t even many talking points until close to the end of the second leg. The first leg finished 0-0, and the second was 1-1 after 90 minutes. Sadly for me and the team, away goals counted for nothing, so we had to sit through an extra half hour of play before the inevitable penalty shootout. Even the shootout severely lacked quality, with the teams conspiring to miss more than they scored! Dundee United - the slight underdogs - missed all four that they took, and St Mirren eventually scored two to claim the tie.
The silver lining is that for next season, we won’t have to travel up to Dundee, whereas St Mirren is a short hop-skip-and-a-jump from Glasgow airport. It’s quickly become apparent that my fellow ops take geography into account when deciding who to back in these games, and although United played in orange, I confess I was a little relieved, too.
I’m now virtually off until the second week of June- World Cup of Darts, no less - and in that time I am hoping to have a home signed, sealed, and delivered in time for the start of the month, and the end of tenancy fees! Woo!
