I caught some good waves after work today. I thought it would be only three foot but on the sets it was actually had high. Earlier in the day, after a late morning breakfast and a trip to the gym, I had trimmed an olive tree for some customers, raising the lower part of the canopy and thinning it out in the backyard of an elderly couple out in the Phyllis Place area. They were really nice people. She'd lived in that same house since 1951, if you can believe that. It was only a $300 job so I did it solo with no ground guy, just me doing all the clipping, climbing up and down, and all the cleanup myself, took me a lot longer than it would have with an assistant. It took me about 3 hours, maybe a little more because I was lagging towards the end while covering up the trailer. It was an easy job and frankly I don't mind working alone; I just turn on the radio and listen to NPR. However, I'd rather have somebody there with me doing all the pick up work, honestly. Day laborers are getting harder to find these days now that Trump is scaring all the good migrant laborers back to Mexico. Thanks Trump. But it was easy money. Afterwards I drove the Reviewervan straight to La Jolla Shores and paddled out with the red stick. It was great. I caught about 5 set waves before the sun went down, doing a big off a lip on a right, where a young father and his six-year-old daughter was splashing around in the shorebreak. He cheered, actually, when he saw me do it and then when I rode the white water from the close out past him and his daughter he yelled "good turn!" I told him "thanks!" haha... On the next wave I did a snap under the lip with a cover-up on a glassy bowl section. This is where I was surprised at this beachbreak called La Jolla Shores and how it's actually pretty good sometimes on days when you don't expect it. That was one of the head high ones.
