Hereâs a sneak peek of chapter 2 which will be coming soon:
Keith was pulled from his thoughts, the unmistakable sound of Pidgeâs voice rising over the usual city noises. He didnât have time to turn around before he felt a weight slam into his back, sending him stumbling a few steps forward, almost falling over entirely. The air was pushed out of his chest at the impact, leaving him gasping for a moment as the sight of Shiro and Allura in front of him started to spin. Next to him he could hear Lanceâs musical laugh, no doubt finding way too much amusement in Keithâs struggle to remain upright
âChrist, PidgeâŚâ Keith said, voice somewhat raspy, as he felt arms wrap around his neck, knees digging into either side of his waist. âA little more warning next time.â
He heard Pidge let out a laugh, their voice coming from right behind him before he felt the weight of a chin rest on his shoulder. âIâm tired of walking and Hunk refused to let me ride on his back.â They said as if that explained their actions in any way.
âYouâre too heavy!â Hunk called lightly from a few steps behind them.
Keith grunted, hefting his small friend up a little higher, arms wrapping under their knees to hold them in place. âAnd so you just tackle me? What if I fell?â
âPssh, as if.â Pidge replied dismissively. âYou never miss leg day.â
âWhat does that have to do with anything?â Keith asked, tone dry.
âNo, it makes sense.â Lance replied, nodding his head but not explaining further than that.
âUh-huhâŚâ Keith said flatly, deciding that he could never understand the minds of morons. âBut why me? Why not Lance?â
Keith felt an arm detach from around his neck a moment before a hand hit him lightly upside the head, a âtskâ following it. âEveryone knows that Lance has noodle arms. He would drop me.â
âHey!â Lance cut in, voice rising. âIâll have you know Iâm strong! I give piggyback rides to my niece and nephew all the time!â
âThose are kids, though.â Pidge pointed out. âIâm a full-grown adult.â
âWellâŚâ Keith said smugly, knowing that he would get a rise out of Pidge. âA very small full-grown adult.â
âYou shut up.â Pidge replied darkly, pulling lightly on a strand of his hair. âYouâre not exactly a skyscraper either.â
âIâm, like, an inch shorter than Lance!â Keith retorted, sending a glare over his shoulder at Pidge.
âAnd itâs that inch that makes all the difference.â Lance said wistfully, not trying to hide the mocking tone to his voice. âHow sad that youâll never know what the viewâs like from up here. A true tragedy, wouldnât you say Hunk?â
Hunk fell into step beside Lance, throwing an arm over his shoulder and sighing. âIndeed, my tall friend.â
âTheyâre insufferable.â Pidge said, anger lacing their words. âCâmon, Keith. We donât need to listen to this. Us short people gotta stick together.â
âDonât put me in the same league as you! Iâm not that short!â Keith replied, exasperated.
âIâm sorry, I canât hear you all the way down there. Could you speak up?â Lance replied, raising a hand to his ear and leaning towards Keith, drawing a laugh from Hunk.
Keith felt a fire light inside him, the flames coursing through his veins. Before he could say anything, though, Pidge spoke.
âHey, Keith. Did you know that on average tall people die younger than short people?â Their words were sharp, clipped from their own irritation.
Keith angled a dangerous glare at Lance and Hunk, his own voice filled with venom. âHuh. Interesting. I guess we have something to look forward to then.â
