Obi-Wan Kenobi’s life has been riddled with grief, and pain, it was the life of a Jedi. He had given everything for the Order, for the Republic. But Obi-Wan often reminded himself that there were so many that had it worse than he and his other Jedi, and that’s why he fought, so that maybe, one day, there wouldn’t be so much suffering in the galaxy. 

One of the darkest days of the war however was the day he had lost his beloved Satine. The pain was nearly crushing as he held her while she took her final breaths. He had loved her. Were he truthful, to the day Satine died, he would’ve left everything had she asked him to. In the days following her death, Obi-Wan had met her sister, Bo Katan. The two of them shared their profound grief with one another, and somehow, it comforted them both. After an intimate night, Obi-Wan had to leave Mandalore, the war not stopping for anyone. 

Several months had gone by, and Obi-Wan had not heard from Bo Katan. He hadn’t expected to hear anything, but his thoughts did drift to her from time to time. Then, out of nowhere, Obi-Wan had received a coded message from Bo Katan, with a holo image that would live in his memory forever.

A child, more importantly, his child.

Mara Jade Kryze. The result of his and Bo Katan’s night of intimacy. Wisps of red hair sticking out from underneath her cap. 

Obi-Wan had never known that one could fall in love with an image so deeply at first glance.

But Bo Katan and Obi-Wan agreed, her lineage to him had to be hidden. With Maul still at large, had he received word that Obi-Wan had a daughter on Mandalore? He would move mountains and the galaxy itself to find her and kill her. 

Bo Katan did her best to send Obi-Wan updates on their daughter when she could. She was the perfect combination of both himself and Bo Katan. But one day, the updates had stopped.

Pinned down by Separatist fire, Obi-Wan could hear screams. But it wasn’t from the battle.

“MAMA! HELP!” 

Mara was in trouble, Obi-Wan could feel her fear and her screams for her mother through the Force. Obi-Wan dropped to his knees, causing troopers to rush to his side. Shaking it off, Obi-Wan would win this battle and then get in contact with Bo Katan. 

Once able, he had made contact with Bo Katan, who was as anguished as he was. Explaining forces took Mara and they had searched Mandalore but could not find a trace of her. There were rumors that Separatist spies had caught wind of the child and captured her to use as leverage against Obi-Wan. 

But Obi-Wan was not able to find Mara before the unthinkable happened. Order 66 and Anakin’s betrayal had brought an end to the order and had made Obi-Wan a wanted criminal. He couldn’t look for Mara alone now without causing more harm than good.

Obi-Wan had found an ally in Senator Organa however, he speaking to the Senator in private aboard his shuttle. They having only moments ago deciding to take Luke to Tatooine and Leia would accompany Bail to Alderaan. He confided in him about Mara, how now knowing the truth of the war, feared that the Chancellor, now Emperor Palpatine had his child.

The senator agreed to use his contacts in the government to find out the location of Mara, but they’d have to be careful, things were chaotic, were they to rescue child they would need to be precise,  and calculated. 

Obi-Wan had made his way to Tatooine, delivering Luke to his family and vowing to watch over him. It would be another two years before he received the coded message he had been waiting for.

Organa: General Kenobi, come to Alderaan. We have your package.

Finding passage off Tatooine was easier than expected, a smuggler took him to the planet. Once on Alderaan, Organa’s forces picked Obi-Wan up and brought him to the Senator’s home under the protection of the night sky. 

Bail had filled him in on all the intel they had got on what they had been doing to Mara, what they had been training her for and Obi-Wan wanted to be sick. His only wish was that they had got her out sooner. 

Standing out on a balcony nervously, Obi-Wan held a small stuffed Lothal Cat in his hands, waiting on Mara who was being tended to by healers, to make sure she was alright. He had never even met his own daughter. But now, that was going to change.

Rey sneezed once more, hiding into her elbow for a moments. She sniffed and went back to work on the Falcon. Her nose was red and her eyes were drooping tired, but still she tinkered in the low light with the Falcon’s engines. “Poe thinks I have the flu that’s going around base.” She commented with a weak chuckle. On cue, she sneezed again.

Sabé stared at the red-haired woman, looking at Bo-Katan now, Sabé could see it. The resemblance between Mara and her... the former handmaiden supposed the only appropriate word, was Mother.

"You're Mara's..." she still couldn't say it out loud.

She had adopted the girl, she had taken her in as her own, blast it she was Mara's mother, not this stranger!

"Where the kriff have you been the last sixteen years?" Sabé heard herself blurt out, how could she even consider letting Mara anywhere near this woman!

"No, you don't get to see her, I-"

But then she noticed Bo-Katan's eyes were fixed behind her, turning Sabé saw her daughter standing in the doorway, watching the two women.

"Do you think I care about any of that?" Sabé asked, really sometimes Mara made too much of her past.

“Mara, come here.” Sabé said patting the seat beside her for the young redhead.

Her duty was to protect Leia, that had been true since the girl had been an infant. But now that Mara had taken her name, she had a duty to her daughter as well.

Echo was silent. He failed. It was a risky game from the start. How could it be assumed that the Force-sensitive Sith would not guess that he was lying to them and was a double agent? But at least he provided the insurgent with valuable information more than once. He knew what he was doing and if he was killed now, it would not be a surprise. Rex and Bad Batch will be sad for him, but at least he will meet Fives and the others from Domino's squad.

He raised his eyes and looked at Mara. He was sorry that it was she who revealed him. She was the only person he didn't want to harm. And still...

“I’m very sorry that it was you who revealed me. I don’t know if you will believe me now or not, but I really considered you a friend. You are the only persone I didn’t want to harm. But nevertheless, I did what I did and do not regret it.

When we met, I gave you reasons why I hate and do not want to work for Empire. This hasn't changed. I did it for the sake of my brothers, those who died and those who were still alive. I did this in memory of Fyves, who almost uncovered the plot, but died after only warning Rex. I hate and dream to overthrow the emperor for everything he has done... "

He chuckled. If he's dead anyway, why not try one thing he's been thinking about for a long time?
