Naama Steinbock and Idan Friedman, of Reddish Studio, have created a playful sculpture display called “Venus of Jaffa”. The goddesses are made from earthenware-colored balloons, inflated within a copper wire frame, creating a natural curve within the form. Balloons, with their limited life span, give the plump bodies of the original figurines a modern and transitory quality. “While the archeological Venus statuettes have survived tens of thousands of years,” Steinbock and Friedman note, “the new addition to their dynasty is only ephemeral and has the lifespan of a party decoration.”
I just love the everlasting adoration of the Venus figurine!
