#red-tailed monkey

The Red-Tailed Monkey, or Cercopithecus ascanius, has many names including the black-cheeked, white-nosed monkey, red-tailed guenon, redtail monkey, or Schmidt's guenon.

This primate is omnivorous and grows up to 2 feet long (including the tail) and weigh up to 10 pounds.

These are social monkeys with groups of 7-30 living together under a dominant male and female.

Their stomachs have special compartments to digest toxic unripe fruits that other monkeys avoid.

The white heart-shaped nose spot is unique to each individual, possibly helping troop members recognize each other.

Red-tailed monkeys are polygynous meaning that one male mates with multiple females.
