Fun(?) fact about Lindsey Graham
He was elected in 2002 to his Senate seat representing South Carolina.
The man before him who retired? Strom Thurmond, the segregationist, who had held that same seat since 1956. Thurmond who originally was a Democrat but switched parties in 1964 over the Civil Rights Act, secretly fathered a mixed-raced child after raping one of his family's teenage "domestic servants," and was also known to sexually harass women around Capitol Hill. He died at 100.
Graham, though nowhere near as horrible, joins Thurmond in representing consecutive decades of disgraceful representation for South Carolina at the federal level, and I'm sure whichever Republican is appointed and wins following his death, whether it's Nancy Mace or someone else, will also continue that legacy.
