Vivian is/was the heir to her family’s business which controlled most of the towns ports. She was known to be dower and quiet, but also very inquisitive and a patron of the arts.

As such she invited the group of students to stay at her mansion for free and use her ponds for their research. Everything seemed to be fine between her and the group. They had mentioned no wrong happening, only her increasingly despairing mood.

Then one day, they all disappeared. Cora Rantanen last saw the group head to a local cave to do more research, and Ms.Gallagher went to visit the lighthouse. Since then she has been missing for five years. The students were missing for nearly the same time but their bodies have been found recently.

The manner of death is strange and disturbing. From what’s left of the bones, it seems like their heads were blown open by some force. That is all that can be found so far in the salt-drenched bones.

Cora the Housekeeper and Butler of the Mansion. She immigrated to the island of Faircliff around five years ago. Despite having little documentation (so did most everyone back then, and now), she quickly rose through the household’s ranks and became close to the missing Ms.Gallagher.

Due to her disappearance, Cora has switched to essentially running the Gallagher family business until she is found. As such, it’s hard to find her. For Detective Ikin, this is not good news as she was the last person to see Vivian Gallagher in person and helped host the murdered students he is investigating.

As a beloved member of both Faircliff and the mansion’s staff, most have nothing to say against her character or her work. However, something in Decetive Ikin screams at him whenever she smiles. The question is, is this voice coming from her refusal to answer his questions or prey instinct telling him to run?

(Why would a normal woman even draw that out of him? Ikin is not an easily scared person, from all that he knows of himself. Cora Rantanen is just a stranger, he’ll feel better if they talk. He’ll feel better if they talk. My, how she still entrances you; You haven’t changed over all these years)

Like most of the youth of his era, Nathaniel lacks many documents considered necessary for living a normal life. Unlike many of them, he is also missing most of his memories as well. Despite the low odds of getting anywhere with no resources, Nathaniel has always had great luck. A Private Eye picked him up as an apprentice due to good instincts and smart, and Nathaniel hadn’t looked back.

The Faircliff case, a series of five disappearances five years ago was meant to be his first solo mission but slowly unraveled to reveal a series of murders instead. Detective Ikin, as he calls himself, has sworn that he will find what happened.

Granted the gift to stay in the Gallagher Mansion, another mystery landed at his feet. Five years ago, nearly the same days as the murders, Vivian Gallagher disappeared. Something within Ikin calls to him, and begs that he learns her fate.

As clues start appearing around the town and the hints becoming more personal, perhaps this case will help him understand his own past. That’s if he gets over the sense of dread the whole island gives him, and the fear sits in his stomach at the sight of the Lighthouse.

(Nathaniel, I know you. I know the exact nerves that contract in your heart to herald a new pump of life-giving ichor into your veins. Hear me, there is a reason things go missing in Faircliff, a reason you’ve forgotten this. It’s not kind to prod the dead, but if you continue, be aware you’ll only find their cold hands dragging you down into the deep)
